Rheindorf Altach B 1-2 VfB Hohenems — VfB Hohenems came from behind to claim a valuable away victory in the Austrian 3. Liga, ending Rheindorf Altach B's resistance with a composed second-half turnaround.

Altach's second string had taken an early lead and looked comfortable for much of the opening period, but Hohenems responded with a determined, disciplined performance after the break. Two goals in the space of twenty minutes flipped the match on its head, and the visitors managed the closing stages with commendable maturity.

Match Overview

The home side started brightly, pressing with purpose and getting their reward inside the opening quarter of an hour. For a while, the pattern looked set, with Altach B keeping possession neatly and Hohenems struggling to establish any rhythm in the attacking third.

The turning point came shortly after half-time. Hohenems adjusted their pressing structure and began to win the ball higher up the pitch, and their equaliser arrived from precisely that kind of turnover. The winner followed less than twenty minutes later, and from that point the visitors defended their lead with discipline.

• 13' — Rheindorf Altach B take the lead with a well-placed header from a corner.
• 35' — Hohenems' best chance of the first half is denied by a strong save at the near post.
• 52' — Hohenems equalise, pouncing on a misplaced pass and finishing clinically on the counter.
• 68' — The winning goal arrives, a low drive from the edge of the area after patient build-up play.
• 79' — Altach B strike the crossbar as they search for a response.
• 90+3' — Hohenems clear a late corner and see out the win.

Tactical Story

Altach B's first-half control came from their ability to circulate the ball quickly through midfield, drawing Hohenems out of position and creating overloads in wide areas. Their early goal came from a set piece, but the patterns of play before it suggested a team in good rhythm.

Hohenems' second-half improvement was rooted in aggression. They pushed their defensive line higher, squeezed the space in midfield and forced Altach B into longer passes. That change of approach disrupted the home side's rhythm entirely, and both goals came from situations where Hohenems won the ball in advanced areas.

Altach B's response was spirited but rushed. Chasing the game, they committed more players forward and left themselves exposed, and only some wasteful finishing from the visitors kept the scoreline at 2-1.

Standout Performers

Hohenems' central midfielder dictated the second half, winning tackles and setting the tempo for the comeback. The goalscorer of the winner showed excellent composure, and the goalkeeper's first-half save at 1-0 proved decisive in keeping the visitors in touch.

For Altach B, the goalscorer was a threat throughout and the young wide players showed flashes of real quality. The challenge for this development side remains consistency across 90 minutes, particularly when opponents raise their intensity after the interval.

What It Means

An away win built on a strong second-half performance is exactly the kind of result that sustains momentum in the Austrian 3. Liga. Hohenems will point to their tactical discipline as the foundation of the victory and will look to carry that into their next outing.

For Rheindorf Altach B, there are lessons to take. Leading at home is an opportunity to control a match, and learning to protect an advantage is a crucial part of the development pathway for a reserve side competing against senior opposition week in and week out.
