Rheindorf Altach B 0-2 SC Imst: Clinical Imst Take All Three Points in Austrian 3.Liga

SC Imst secured a comfortable 0-2 away victory over Rheindorf Altach B in the Austrian 3.Liga on 18 October 2026, punishing the hosts for missed chances and defensive lapses. Imst scored in each half and defended resolutely thereafter, securing a valuable three points on the road.

Altach B enjoyed more possession for long periods but lacked the cutting edge to break down a well-organised Imst defence. The visitors, by contrast, were clinical when opportunities arrived and managed the game intelligently after taking the lead.

Match overview

The first half was a cagey affair, with Altach B looking to build patiently from the back and Imst content to defend in a compact shape. The hosts created the first clear chance in the 21st minute, but a low shot from inside the box was well saved by the Imst goalkeeper. Imst grew into the game and took the lead in the 37th minute when a quick counter-attack ended with a composed finish from their centre-forward.

Altach B pushed forward after the break and were awarded a penalty in the 58th minute, but the chance was wasted as the Imst goalkeeper guessed correctly and made the save. The miss proved costly. Imst doubled their lead in the 72nd minute, breaking down the right and delivering a cross that was converted at the far post. Altach B huffed and puffed in the final minutes, but Imst’s defence held firm.

Tactical story

Altach B tried to control the game through possession, using their midfield to circulate the ball and probe for gaps. However, they were often too slow in transition, allowing Imst to regroup and defend in numbers. Their penalty miss was the defining moment of the match and gave Imst the confidence to see out the result.

Imst set up in a disciplined 4-4-2, keeping their shape and looking to strike on the counter. Their midfielders worked hard to close down space, while the front two combined well and held the ball up when needed. After taking the lead, Imst dropped slightly deeper and invited pressure, but their goalkeeper and centre-backs handled everything Altach B threw at them.

Standout performers

The Imst goalkeeper was the hero of the match, saving a penalty and making several other important stops. The Imst centre-forward led the line well, scoring the opener and occupying the Altach B defenders throughout. In defence, the Imst captain was commanding in the air and made a number of crucial clearances. For Altach B, the midfielder who won the penalty was their most creative outlet, but the missed opportunity summed up a frustrating afternoon.

Table impact

The win gives SC Imst a valuable boost in the Austrian 3.Liga standings and rewards their disciplined away performance. Rheindorf Altach B remain in need of points and will be concerned by their failure to convert possession into goals. Imst will look to build on this result in their next fixture, while Altach B must regroup quickly and find more ruthlessness in the final third.
