ATSV Salzburg 2-3 Union Henndorf: Late Winner Settles Austrian Landesliga Classic

Union Henndorf edged ATSV Salzburg 3-2 in an entertaining Austrian Landesliga fixture on Sunday, September 27, 2026. The 18:00 kick-off produced five goals, with Henndorf twice restoring their lead before a late winner sealed a hard-fought away victory.

ATSV Salzburg fought back bravely and looked capable of taking a draw, but Henndorf’s cutting edge in the final third proved decisive. The result adds important momentum to Henndorf’s season while leaving Salzburg to rue missed opportunities.

Match Overview

The match began at a high tempo, with both sides pressing and looking to attack quickly. Henndorf struck early, but ATSV responded with a well-worked equaliser. That pattern continued throughout: Salzburg controlled spells of possession, while Henndorf looked dangerous every time they won the ball in midfield.

As the game wore on, space opened up. Both teams committed players forward, and the final 20 minutes became a genuine end-to-end contest. Henndorf’s ability to find a late goal made the difference on the night.

Key Moments

• 9th minute: Union Henndorf opened the scoring through Stefan Mayr, who finished neatly after a quick counter.
• 34th minute: ATSV Salzburg equalised when Thomas Gruber converted from close range after a goalmouth scramble.
• 52nd minute: Lukas Wallner restored Henndorf’s lead with a powerful strike from just outside the box.
• 64th minute: ATSV hit back again, Elias Pichler finishing off a flowing team move.
• 78th minute: Daniel Berger scored the winner, arriving at the back post to turn in a low cross.

Tactical Story

ATSV Salzburg used a possession-based approach, building through midfield and looking to create overloads on the wings. They moved the ball well at times, but Henndorf’s compact defensive shape made it hard for them to find clear shooting lanes centrally.

Henndorf were happy to concede territory and strike on the break. Their front three rotated constantly, pulling Salzburg’s defenders out of position. The winning goal was a perfect example of that strategy: a quick transition, a wide overlap, and a simple finish at the back post.

Standout Players

Daniel Berger was the hero for Union Henndorf, scoring the late winner and causing problems with his movement. Stefan Mayr set the tone with the opening goal, while Lukas Wallner added energy and quality in midfield. For ATSV Salzburg, Thomas Gruber and Elias Pichler were the standout performers, each taking their goals well.

What the Result Means

Union Henndorf take three valuable points from a difficult away trip, boosting their position in the Austrian Landesliga standings. ATSV Salzburg will feel they deserved something from the game, but defensive lapses in key moments cost them. Both teams showed enough going forward to suggest they will be competitive throughout the campaign.
