TSV Hartberg and LASK Linz played out a breathless 3-3 draw in the Austrian Bundesliga on Sunday evening, a six-goal thriller at the Profertil Arena that swung one way and then the other before ending with honours shared.

Six goals, no winner

Matches between Hartberg and LASK have rarely been dull, and this one delivered everything: early pressure, a flurry of goals, a stunning comeback and a frantic finish. The visitors arrived as one of the division's more ambitious sides, while Hartberg once again showed the fighting spirit that has made them such awkward opponents on home soil.

The opening exchanges set the tone. LASK looked to control possession through midfield, patiently building from the back, while Hartberg pressed aggressively and looked to spring forward at every opportunity. The goals came in bursts, with the game's momentum shifting dramatically inside the first hour.

Key moments

• Opening goal: Hartberg struck first, capitalising on a loose ball in the box after a well-worked set piece.
• Quick response: LASK answered almost immediately, with a low strike from the edge of the area restoring parity.
• LASK's purple patch: The visitors turned the game around with two goals in quick succession, briefly looking in complete control.
• Hartberg's fightback: A determined second-half surge brought the hosts back level, and the equaliser sparked wild celebrations.
• Late drama: Both sides pushed for a winner in the closing minutes, but a combination of saves and blocks kept the score at 3-3.

Tactical story

Hartberg's game plan was built on intensity. Their midfield pressed high, forcing LASK into hurried passes, and they attacked with real width, repeatedly getting crosses into the box. The risk, of course, was the space left behind — and LASK exploited it ruthlessly during their best spell, breaking at speed and finding gaps between Hartberg's centre-backs.

After the interval, Hartberg adjusted, dropping their defensive line a little deeper and using their substitutes to inject fresh energy into the wide areas. The change shifted the momentum back in their favour and set up the dramatic finish.

Standout performers

Hartberg's forward line deserves enormous credit for refusing to let the game slip away, and their captain led by example with a tireless all-round display. For LASK, the veteran creativity of Robert Žulj was central to nearly everything the visitors created, while their goalkeeper produced a crucial late save to preserve the draw.

What it means for the table

A point apiece will feel simultaneously satisfying and frustrating. LASK will rue dropping two points after leading, particularly given their ambitions of challenging near the top of the Austrian Bundesliga standings. Hartberg, meanwhile, will take real encouragement from the character shown in coming back from behind against one of the league's stronger squads.

For neutrals, it was a reminder of why the Austrian Bundesliga is such an entertaining competition — open, attacking football, genuine intensity and results that are far from predictable. Both clubs will now turn their attention to the next round of fixtures, with the reverse meeting later in the season already looking like one to circle in the calendar.
