Sorrento F.C. delivered a dominant away performance to thrash Balcatta FC 3–0 at Grindleford Reserve. The comprehensive victory lifts the Gulls into the top four of the Western Australia NPL, while Balcatta remain rooted in the relegation places.

First Half Domination

Sorrento were in control from the first whistle. Midfielder Ben Halliday opened the scoring in the 12th minute with a stunning strike from the edge of the box after a short corner routine. The visitors doubled their lead just after the half‑hour mark when striker James Foster tapped in after a header from a corner was spilled by the Balcatta goalkeeper. Foster then turned provider in first‑half stoppage time, crossing for winger Alex Petrovic to score with a side‑footed finish.

Second Half: Sorrento Manage the Game

With a three‑goal cushion, Sorrento were content to control possession and hit on the counter. Balcatta, to their credit, showed more urgency after the break and had a goal ruled out for offside. Sorrento goalkeeper Tom Watson was rarely tested, though he produced a fine save to deny a long‑range effort from Balcatta captain Josh Wallace late on.

Standout Performers

James Foster was the star of the show with a goal and an assist, tormenting the Balcatta defence with his movement. Ben Halliday’s work rate in midfield ensured Sorrento never lost control. For Balcatta, left‑back Luke Bennett was the only bright spot, making several surging runs forward that ultimately came to nothing.

Sorrento leapfrog into fourth place with 20 points from twelve matches, while Balcatta slip to 14th, just above the bottom side. Balcatta manager John Collins admitted his side were outclassed and will need a rapid improvement to avoid a relegation fight.
