Urartu 5-2 FK Van Charentsavan: Second-Half Blitz Seals Convincing Armenian Premier League Win

Urartu produced one of the most entertaining attacking displays of the Armenian Premier League season on Saturday evening, beating FK Van Charentsavan 5-2 at the Urartu Stadium. The hosts were level at 2-2 at half-time, but three unanswered goals after the restart turned a competitive contest into a statement home victory.

The result gives Urartu another important three points in their push for the upper reaches of the table, while Van Charentsavan leave with credit for their first-half response but concern about a defensive collapse in the second period.

Match overview

Urartu began with intent and needed only seven minutes to open the scoring. A quick exchange on the right flank released Tigran Sargsyan, who cut inside and finished low into the far corner. The lead doubled in the 19th minute when Arman Hovhannisyan arrived late in the box to convert a pulled-back cross from the byline.

Van Charentsavan responded well rather than folding. Davit Ayvazyan pulled one back in the 31st minute after Urartu failed to clear a corner, and Narek Manukyan equalised shortly before the break with a composed finish on the counter-attack. That made it 2-2 at half-time and briefly changed the mood around the stadium.

The second half was a different story. Urartu raised their pressing line, moved the ball faster through midfield and created a series of clear chances. Sargsyan restored the lead in the 55th minute, Hovhannisyan added his second in the 68th, and substitute Karen Muradyan completed the scoring in the 84th minute.

Tactical story

Urartu set up in a flexible 4-2-3-1 and controlled the game through their midfield pivot. Their full-backs pushed high, stretching Van’s back line and creating space for the inside forwards. The key adjustment after half-time was the speed of circulation: Urartu stopped allowing Van to reset into their defensive block and instead attacked the spaces behind the wing-backs.

Van Charentsavan used a 5-4-1 shape out of possession and looked dangerous on the break in the first half. Their two goals came from exactly the situations they had planned for — a set-piece scramble and a fast transition. However, as the game opened up after the interval, they struggled to protect the central areas and were punished by Urartu’s superior movement.

Standout players

Tigran Sargsyan was the outstanding attacking force, scoring twice and constantly drifting into dangerous pockets between Van’s midfield and defence. Arman Hovhannisyan’s double underlined his threat from set pieces and late runs into the box, while Karen Muradyan made an instant impact from the bench. For Van, Narek Manukyan was their most composed performer, and goalkeeper Vardan Petrosyan made several saves to keep the score respectable.

Season impact

The win strengthens Urartu’s position in the Armenian Premier League standings and keeps them within touching distance of the top three. Their goal difference also receives a timely boost after a high-scoring night. Sargsyan’s brace moves him into the conversation among the league’s top scorers. For FK Van Charentsavan, the defeat leaves them needing a quick response in their next fixture as they look to climb away from the lower part of the table.
