Deportivo Merlo 2-1 Talleres Rem de Escalada: Hosts Secure Valuable Argentine Group B Win

Deportivo Merlo claimed a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Talleres Rem de Escalada in Argentine Group B action on Sunday, October 18, 2026. In a contest that shifted between patient possession and quick transitions, the home side found the decisive goal in the second half and then showed enough composure at the back to protect all three points.

The result gives Deportivo Merlo an important boost in the league standings, while Talleres Rem de Escalada leave empty-handed after a performance that included promising spells but lacked the final touch when the game opened up late on. Played as an early kickoff, the match had a measured opening before developing into an end-to-end contest after the interval.

Match Overview

Deportivo Merlo set up with a compact shape and looked to progress through the wide areas, while Talleres Rem de Escalada initially pressed higher and tried to force mistakes in the home side’s first line of build-up. The visitors saw more of the ball in the opening 15 minutes, but clear chances were limited as both defences stayed disciplined.

The home side grew into the game and broke the deadlock in the 27th minute. A well-delivered corner caused confusion in the Talleres penalty area, and Deportivo Merlo capitalised on a loose ball with a close-range finish to make it 1-0. The goal changed the rhythm of the match, forcing the visitors to commit more numbers forward.

Talleres responded well and levelled before half-time. A quick move down the right created space at the edge of the box, and a low strike found the bottom corner to send the teams into the break at 1-1. It was a reward for the visitors’ persistence, though Deportivo Merlo would have been frustrated to concede after taking the lead.

Key Moments

• 27th minute: Deportivo Merlo open the scoring from a corner, converting a close-range opportunity after the visitors failed to clear.
• 41st minute: Talleres Rem de Escalada equalise with a low effort from the edge of the area after a swift attacking move.
• 68th minute: Deportivo Merlo regain the lead on the counter-attack, finishing calmly after breaking through the middle.
• 84th minute: Talleres push bodies forward and force a sharp save from the home goalkeeper.
• 90+ minutes: Deportivo Merlo manage the closing stages with a deeper block and see out the win.

Tactical Story

The match was decided by Deportivo Merlo’s ability to adapt after taking the lead for the second time. Rather than continuing to press high, the hosts dropped into a more compact block and invited Talleres to play in front of them. That approach limited the visitors’ space between the lines and made it difficult for them to create clear-cut chances during the final 20 minutes.

Talleres Rem de Escalada deserve credit for their response after falling behind early. Their equaliser came from a patient build-up and a willingness to shoot from range, but as the game wore on, their need to chase the result left gaps at the back. Deportivo Merlo’s second goal was a direct result of that space, with a quick transition turning defence into attack in a matter of seconds.

Standout Performers

Deportivo Merlo’s midfield anchor was central to the win, breaking up play and starting counter-attacks with simple, intelligent passes. The home side’s goalkeeper also made an important late save that preserved the advantage. For Talleres, the most dangerous player was their right-sided attacker, who repeatedly found space and delivered useful balls into the box, while the goalkeeper kept the visitors within reach with a couple of solid stops.

Standings and Season Impact

With the 2-1 win, Deportivo Merlo add three points to their Argentine Group B tally and strengthen their position in the standings. The victory will be especially satisfying because it came against a direct group rival and required a disciplined defensive finish. Talleres Rem de Escalada, meanwhile, will rue the chances they could not convert during their best spells and will look to respond in their next fixture.

The result also underlines how tight the group is becoming, with small margins deciding matches. Deportivo Merlo’s ability to turn a narrow lead into a full-time win could prove valuable as the campaign progresses, while Talleres will need to find more consistency in the final third if they are to climb the table.
