Sportivo Italiano claimed a hard-fought 2-1 away victory over Deportivo Laferrere on Sunday, taking all three points from a fiercely competitive Argentine Group B fixture that swung on a decisive second-half spell.

In a match between two clubs with passionate, tradition-rich followings, it was the visitors who showed the sharper edge in the final third, scoring twice in quick succession before weathering a late storm to protect their advantage.

Match Overview

Deportivo Laferrere started the brighter of the two sides, pressing high and forcing turnovers in midfield. Their reward came before the interval, when sustained pressure around the box ended with a well-taken finish that put the hosts 1-0 up and sent the home crowd into full voice.

Sportivo Italiano, though, had shown enough in the first half to suggest the game was far from settled. Their shape remained disciplined, they kept the ball well in wide areas, and they began the second period with noticeably more urgency.

Key Moments

• First half: Laferrere broke the deadlock with a composed finish after a spell of pressure, taking a 1-0 lead into the break.
• Second half, early: Sportivo Italiano levelled the score, capitalising on a defensive hesitation and finishing clinically from inside the area.
• Second half, decisive: With Laferrere still reorganising, the visitors struck again to complete the turnaround and make it 2-1.
• Closing stages: Laferrere pushed bodies forward in search of an equaliser, but a series of blocks and a strong save kept them out.

Tactical Story

Laferrere's high press was effective in the first half but costly after the break, as the space it left behind became the platform for both Italiano goals. Sportivo Italiano's decision to sit slightly deeper in the final twenty minutes proved equally important, allowing them to defend their lead with numbers rather than chasing a third goal.

The visitors also controlled the rhythm of the game better in the second half, slowing the tempo after each stoppage and denying Laferrere the quick restarts that had caused problems earlier.

Standout Players

Sportivo Italiano's midfield was the engine of the comeback, winning second balls and linking defence to attack throughout the second half. The scorer of the winning goal showed excellent movement to lose his marker in a crowded penalty area. For Laferrere, the goalkeeper kept the scoreline respectable with a couple of important stops, while the forward line remained a threat to the very end.

Table and Season Impact

Three points on the road are particularly valuable in a division where away form often separates genuine promotion contenders from the rest of the pack. Sportivo Italiano moves upward in the Group B standings and takes a psychological edge from turning a deficit into a win, while Deportivo Laferrere is left to rue a strong first half that yielded only a single goal.

Both clubs now turn their attention to the next round of fixtures, with Laferrere eager to restore home form and Italiano hoping to build a run of results on the back of this performance.
