Independiente Rivadavia 0-0 Estudiantes La Plata: Argentina Supercopa Ends in Stalemate

The Argentina Supercopa produced a tense and tactical affair as Independiente Rivadavia held Estudiantes La Plata to a goalless draw on July 22, 2026. Played at a neutral venue, the match showcased two well-organized defenses but lacked the cutting edge expected from a showpiece final.

Estudiantes, the reigning Copa de la Liga Profesional champions, entered as favorites but found little space against a disciplined Rivadavia backline. The home side, competing in their first Supercopa appearance, relied on counter-attacks that rarely troubled the experienced Estudiantes goalkeeper. The best chance of the first half fell to Estudiantes striker Mauro Méndez, whose close-range header was brilliantly saved by Rivadavia’s keeper.

In the second half, both managers introduced fresh legs, but the rhythm remained fractured. Midfield battles dominated, with neither side able to sustain pressure. The match ended 0-0, forcing the title to be decided by a penalty shootout—though the result itself marks a resilient performance from the underdogs.

Key Tactical Takeaways

• Defensive discipline: Rivadavia's low block frustrated Estudiantes’ creative midfielders.
• Missed opportunity: Estudiantes failed to convert 12 total shots, only 3 on target.
• Set-piece threat: Both teams threatened from corners but lacked final accuracy.

The draw leaves the Supercopa race open, with a replay or extra-time decider likely scheduled. For Independiente Rivadavia, the result represents a statement of intent against one of Argentina’s top clubs.
