The result leaves both teams with plenty to build on: Gimnasia will be disappointed not to hold on for the win, while Instituto will take confidence from their second-half response.

Match Overview

Gimnasia Mendoza Reserves started the match on the front foot, pressing high and forcing Instituto into hurried clearances. The home side continued to create half-chances, but Instituto’s goalkeeper kept the deficit to one goal before half-time.

Instituto AC Cordoba II came out with more urgency after the break. They pushed their midfield higher and began to win second balls, pinning Gimnasia back. The equalizer arrived in the 74th minute through Valentin Lopez, whose composed finish capped a sustained period of pressure.

Tactical Story

Gimnasia Mendoza Reserves used a 4-4-2 and looked to press Instituto’s build-up. That worked well in the first half, as they forced turnovers and created chances through quick transitions. Their goal came from a turnover, with Aguirre arriving in space to finish.

Instituto AC Cordoba II adjusted after the break, switching to a 3-5-2 to overload the midfield. The change allowed them to control possession and push their wing-backs higher. The equalizer came from that renewed pressure, as they finally found a way through Gimnasia’s defensive block.

Standout Players

Santiago Aguirre was Gimnasia’s brightest attacking player, not only for his goal but also for his link-up play. The Gimnasia goalkeeper made important saves to preserve the lead for long spells. For Instituto, Valentin Lopez was the catalyst after the break, scoring the equalizer and constantly finding space between the lines.

Instituto’s midfield anchor also deserves mention for winning possession and launching the attacks that turned the game around.

Season Impact

The draw adds a point to both teams’ tallies in the Argentine Reserve League standings. Gimnasia Mendoza Reserves remain difficult to beat at home but will want to convert more of their first-half dominance into wins. Instituto AC Cordoba II showed character to come from behind, and if they can replicate that second-half performance over 90 minutes, they will climb the table. In a league where every point matters, this was a useful, if slightly frustrating, result for both sides.
