Estudiantes LP Reserves and Deportivo Riestra Reserves shared the points in a 1-1 draw in the Argentine Reserve League on 29 October 2026, with a late equaliser cancelling out Riestra's second-half opener. The result was a fair reflection of a balanced contest in which both sides had spells of control.

Match overview

The first half was a cagey affair, with Estudiantes LP Reserves dominating possession but struggling to break down a compact Deportivo Riestra Reserves defence. Riestra sat deep, happy to absorb pressure and look for chances on the counter-attack. Estudiantes moved the ball well through midfield but lacked a cutting edge in the final third.

The second half opened up as both teams pushed for the opening goal. Riestra broke the deadlock in the 54th minute with a swift counter-attack, finishing clinically from inside the box. Estudiantes responded strongly, pushing more players forward and creating a series of chances. Their persistence paid off in the 84th minute when a well-delivered cross was headed home at the far post.

Key moments

Riestra's goal came from a turnover in midfield. Their striker raced clear and slotted the ball past the advancing goalkeeper. Estudiantes then introduced fresh legs from the bench, and the substitute winger made an immediate impact, stretching the Riestra defence. The equaliser came from a corner, with the centre-back rising highest to head into the bottom corner.

In the closing minutes, both teams had chances to win it. Estudiantes forced a good save from a free kick, while Riestra broke quickly but could not find the final pass. The match ended level, with both coaches likely to see positives and areas for improvement.

Tactical story

Estudiantes LP Reserves played a 4-2-3-1 and focused on building patiently from the back. Their full-backs pushed high to provide width, but that left space for Riestra to exploit on the counter. Riestra, using a 4-4-2, defended in a low block and looked to spring forward quickly when they won the ball.

The game changed when Estudiantes increased their pressing intensity in the second half. They forced Riestra into more mistakes and won several corners, one of which led to the equaliser. Riestra will be disappointed not to hold on, but their defensive resilience for much of the match was impressive.

Standout performers

Estudiantes' centre-back was excellent in the air and scored the equalising goal, while their deep-lying midfielder kept the team ticking with intelligent passing. The substitute winger changed the game with his direct running. For Riestra, the striker who scored the opener was a constant threat, and the goalkeeper made several important saves to preserve a point.

Season impact

The draw keeps both teams in the middle of the Argentine Reserve League standings, with plenty of matches remaining. Estudiantes LP Reserves will be pleased with their character to come from behind, but they will want to convert more of their possession into goals. Deportivo Riestra Reserves will take confidence from their defensive display and will look to be more clinical in future away matches.
