Argentino Quilmes Reserves and Excursionistas Reserves shared the points after a 1-1 draw in the Argentine Reserve League on Friday, with both sides scoring in a balanced contest that neither deserved to lose.

Match overview

Argentino Quilmes Reserves started the brighter and took the lead in the first half through a well-worked attacking move. The hosts pressed high, won possession in the opposition half and moved the ball quickly into the box before finishing with composure. Excursionistas Reserves responded well, gradually working their way back into the game and asking questions of the Quilmes defence with a series of crosses and set pieces.

The second half was more open. Quilmes looked to protect their lead by keeping the ball and slowing the tempo, while Excursionistas pushed more players forward in search of an equaliser. The pressure eventually told, and the visitors levelled with a goal that came from a sustained spell of attacking play. Both teams had chances to win it late on, but the match ended level.

Key moments

• Quilmes opener: A quick passing move and a calm finish gave the home side a first-half advantage.
• Excursionistas response: The visitors forced several corners and began to test the Quilmes goalkeeper more regularly.
• Equaliser: Excursionistas were rewarded for their second-half pressure with a well-taken goal.
• Late chances: Both teams had half-chances in the final minutes, but neither could find a winner.

Tactical story

Quilmes’ game plan was based on early pressure and quick combinations in the final third. It worked well in the first half, when they won the ball back high and created problems for Excursionistas’ back line. However, Quilmes dropped deeper after taking the lead, and that invited pressure. Excursionistas took advantage by pushing their full-backs forward and playing more directly.

Excursionistas’ persistence was rewarded in the second half. Their midfielders found more space as Quilmes retreated, and their wide players began to deliver dangerous crosses. The equaliser was a fair reflection of the visitors’ improved performance, but both teams had reason to feel they could have taken all three points.

Standout performers

Quilmes’ goal scorer was lively throughout the first half, while their goalkeeper made important saves to keep the scoreline level during Excursionistas’ best spell. Excursionistas’ central midfielder was influential in the comeback, controlling possession and linking play, and their defenders stood firm under late pressure. Both defensive units showed character in the closing stages, ensuring the game ended in a draw.

Season impact

The draw gives Argentino Quilmes Reserves a point to build on, but they will regret not holding on to their lead. Excursionistas Reserves will be happier with the fightback, though they may also feel they had enough chances to win. In the Argentine Reserve League, draws like this can be valuable for momentum, but both sides know there is still room for improvement at both ends of the pitch.

Both teams will look to turn their competitive performance into a win in their next Reserve League outing.
