Racing de Córdoba and Godoy Cruz Antonio Tomba played out an entertaining 2-2 draw in the Argentine Primera Nacional on September 28, 2026, at the Estadio Miguel Sancho. The result leaves both sides still firmly in the hunt for promotion to the top flight, but it was a night of mixed emotions as Racing surrendered a two-goal advantage.

Match Overview

Racing de Córdoba, the home side, started brightly and took the game to their opponents. Backed by a passionate home crowd, the hosts pressed high and forced Godoy Cruz into a series of early errors. Godoy Cruz, traditionally a top-flight club but competing in the Primera Nacional this season, looked to impose their possession game but were repeatedly frustrated by Racing's disciplined defensive block.

The first half was a tale of Racing's clinical finishing against Godoy Cruz's struggles to break down a compact defence. The visitors saw plenty of the ball but created few clear-cut chances, and Racing punished them with two well-taken goals before the break.

Key Moments

The breakthrough came in the 12th minute when Racing's Facundo Castro latched onto a through ball, rounded the goalkeeper, and slotted into an empty net to send the home fans into raptures. Racing doubled their lead in the 38th minute through Nicolás Silva, who rose highest to head home a corner from the right.

Godoy Cruz came out transformed after the break. In the 67th minute, Tomás Badaloni pulled one back with a powerful strike from the edge of the box after a neat lay-off. The visitors pushed forward relentlessly, and their persistence paid off in the 89th minute when Ezequiel Bullaude curled a stunning free-kick into the top corner to level the score.

Tactical Story

Racing's 4-4-2 high press worked perfectly in the first half, suffocating Godoy Cruz's midfield and forcing turnovers in dangerous areas. However, as legs tired, Godoy's 4-3-3 began to find space between the lines. The introduction of fresh legs in midfield changed the momentum, allowing the visitors to dominate the final 25 minutes and complete their comeback.

Standout Players

Facundo Castro and Nicolás Silva were Racing's standout performers, combining for both goals and causing constant problems with their movement. For Godoy Cruz, Tomás Badaloni was inspirational in the second half, while Ezequiel Bullaude's free-kick was a moment of pure quality that rescued a point for his side.

Season Impact

The draw keeps Racing de Córdoba in the playoff places of the Primera Nacional, while Godoy Cruz remains within touching distance of the promotion spots. Both teams will feel this was a point gained and two dropped, but the resilience shown by Godoy Cruz could prove crucial in the race for a place in Argentina's top division.
