Alvarado Mar del Plata claimed a hard-fought 1-0 away win over Sportivo Las Parejas in the ARFC, with a late goal settling a contest that had been tight, tactical, and increasingly tense. The visitors defended with discipline for long periods before finding the breakthrough that their organisation deserved.

A tight contest with few clear chances

The opening hour was characterised by cautious play and crowded midfield areas. Sportivo Las Parejas tried to impose themselves at home, moving the ball patiently and looking for openings down the flanks, but Alvarado’s defensive block remained compact and alert. The visitors were content to absorb pressure, close down passing lanes, and wait for their opportunity to counter.

Las Parejas’ best moments came from set pieces, but Alvarado’s goalkeeper Martín Orellana dealt with the danger confidently. At the other end, Alvarado grew into the game as the second half progressed, and their willingness to commit men forward in the final fifteen minutes proved decisive.

Key moments

• 34th minute: Sportivo Las Parejas force a smart save from Martín Orellana with a header from a corner.
• 61st minute: Alvarado’s first clear chance is dragged wide after a quick break down the left.
• 83rd minute: Nicolás Ferreyra scores the winning goal, arriving late in the box to convert a low cross.
• 90th minute: Las Parejas push numbers forward, but Alvarado clear a final dangerous delivery.

Tactical story

Alvarado Mar del Plata’s victory was built on patience and shape. Their midfield stayed disciplined, refusing to be dragged out of position by Las Parejas’ rotations. When the home side attacked, Alvarado’s back four held a compact line, forcing crosses from wider areas rather than allowing penetration through the middle. The winning goal came from a rare moment of numerical advantage, with Ferreyra timing his run perfectly to meet a cross at the back post.

Sportivo Las Parejas will feel they deserved more from the game, having enjoyed more possession and territory. However, their attacks lacked a cutting edge, and their final ball was too often hurried. The home side’s frustration grew in the closing stages, and Alvarado’s experienced game management saw them through.

Standout performers

Nicolás Ferreyra will take the headlines for the winning goal, but his overall movement and link-up play were equally important. Martín Orellana produced a composed goalkeeping performance, while Alvarado’s centre-back pairing dealt well with sustained pressure. For Las Parejas, the midfield worked hard to control the tempo, but the forward line struggled to find space against a well-organised defence.

What the result means

The three points are a significant boost for Alvarado Mar del Plata, who showed the kind of resilience needed to win away from home in the ARFC. For Sportivo Las Parejas, the defeat is a frustrating setback and highlights the need for more creativity in the final third. With the standings tightening, both sides will know that fine margins are likely to decide the race for position as the season progresses.
