NA Hussein Dey U20 and USM Alger U20 drew 0-0 in the Algerian U20 league on 23 October 2026, a fiercely contested Algiers derby that was high on commitment and low on clear-cut chances.

Match overview

The derby atmosphere gave the game an edge from the first whistle. USM Alger U20 saw more of the ball in the opening exchanges, pushing their full-backs high and trying to pin NA Hussein Dey U20 back, while the hosts sat compact and looked to strike on the counter. The first half was played at a high tempo but with little space in the final third, as both midfields pressed aggressively and refused to allow easy passes into the strikers.

NA Hussein Dey U20 grew into the contest as the half wore on, using the width of the pitch to relieve pressure and winning a series of free kicks in useful areas. USM Alger U20 continued to probe, but the final ball was repeatedly cut out by a well-organized home defence. At half-time, the 0-0 scoreline reflected a game of tactical discipline rather than a lack of intent.

Key moments

USM Alger U20’s best chance of the first half came from a quick combination on the right, which ended with a shot across goal that was pushed away by the NA Hussein Dey U20 goalkeeper. The hosts responded almost immediately, breaking at speed through their No. 9, whose low effort was blocked by a last-ditch challenge inside the box.

The second half brought more urgency. A free kick from the edge of the area forced a smart save, and a late corner caused a scramble in the six-yard box before the ball was hacked clear. Both benches made attacking changes in the final 20 minutes, but the defensive units held firm. A flurry of yellow cards in the closing stages captured the derby intensity, yet neither side could find the finishing touch.

Tactical story

NA Hussein Dey U20 set up to frustrate, keeping their shape and forcing USM Alger U20 to play in front of them. Their midfielders stayed close to the opposing central players, and their centre-backs defended the penalty area well, clearing crosses and blocking shots. The hosts’ best moments came from transitions, with quick passes into the channels and runners from midfield.

USM Alger U20 controlled more of the possession but struggled to turn territory into clear chances. Their wide players were heavily involved, yet the final delivery was often crowded out. As the game became stretched, both teams traded fouls and stoppages, and the tactical focus shifted from building attacks to managing risk. The final whistle brought relief as much as frustration.

Standout performers

Both goalkeepers produced important saves and commanded their areas well in a match where one mistake would have decided the derby. The NA Hussein Dey U20 central defenders were particularly strong, winning headers and stepping out to intercept passes, while the USM Alger U20 midfield anchor covered ground effectively and kept the ball moving under pressure.

The home side’s No. 9 was a constant outlet, holding the ball up and drawing fouls, and the away side’s right winger looked the most creative player on the pitch whenever he isolated his marker. In a game without goals, those individual battles were the defining feature.

Season impact

The draw adds a point to each side’s tally in the ALG U20 table and underlines how tight the division can be. For NA Hussein Dey U20, the clean sheet is a platform to build on at home; for USM Alger U20, the result is a reminder that possession must be turned into quality chances. The head-to-head record remains tightly balanced after this stalemate, and both teams will carry lessons from the derby into their next fixtures.

In the end, the 0-0 scoreline was a fair reflection of a tense Algiers derby: two committed sides, a handful of half-chances, and no decisive moment.
