GC Mascara secured a narrow 1-0 home victory over Harrach in the Algerian Ligue Professionnelle 2 on 19 October 2026, using a patient second-half goal to break a stubborn resistance. The result keeps Mascara in touch with the promotion places and adds another valuable clean sheet to their season.

Match overview

The first half was a study in control without penetration. GC Mascara dominated the ball, pushing Harrach back with a series of patient passing moves, but the visitors defended their box well and limited clear sights of goal. Harrach were happy to sit deep, absorb pressure, and look for quick breaks through their wide forwards.

Mascara’s breakthrough came after the interval. A period of sustained pressure ended with the ball worked into the penalty area, where a composed finish gave the home side the lead. From there, Mascara managed the game intelligently, slowing the tempo when needed and defending with numbers whenever Harrach attempted to respond.

Key moments

• 18th minute: GC Mascara’s first clear chance came from a corner, but the header was directed straight at the Harrach goalkeeper.
• 33rd minute: Harrach produced a rare counterattack, forcing a low save from the Mascara keeper at the near post.
• 52nd minute: The opening goal. Mascara recycled possession well before a clever pass opened the defence and the finish was placed beyond the goalkeeper.
• 67th minute: Harrach pushed forward in search of an equaliser, but a last-ditch block denied their striker inside the area.
• 81st minute: Mascara’s goalkeeper made the most important save of the night, diving to keep out a curling effort from the edge of the box.
• 90+4 minutes: A final Harrach free kick was headed clear as Mascara closed out the three points.

Tactical story

GC Mascara controlled the rhythm of the match through their midfield triangle. They circulated the ball patiently, drew Harrach’s defensive block toward one side, and then switched play quickly to create space on the opposite flank. The full-backs provided width, while the central midfielders made late runs into the box. It was not a high-tempo performance, but it was a mature one.

Harrach defended in a deep 4-4-2 block and looked to counter through the channels. The plan worked reasonably well in the first half, but as the game wore on, the distance between their midfield and attack grew. That allowed Mascara to win second balls and sustain pressure, which eventually produced the decisive goal.

Standout performers

Mascara’s midfield anchor was central to the win, dictating tempo and winning possession in key moments. The home goalkeeper also made a crucial late save, while the goal scorer’s movement created the space for the breakthrough. Harrach’s centre-backs deserved credit for their resilience, and their goalkeeper kept the visitors within touching distance until the final whistle.

What the result means

The three points lift GC Mascara’s confidence and keep them competitive in the Ligue Professionnelle 2 table, where home form is often decisive in the race for promotion. The clean sheet is another positive, showing that Mascara can win without needing a high-scoring display. For Harrach, the defeat leaves them searching for consistency, especially away from home, and their next match becomes an important opportunity to respond.
