CA Batna edged past AS Khroub 1-0 in an tightly contested Algerian Ligue Professionnelle 2 encounter on 13 October 2026, claiming the local bragging rights in a match that was decided by a single moment of quality. The narrow scoreline belied the intensity of a fixture that carried extra significance for both sets of supporters in eastern Algeria.

Match Overview

Derbies in this part of the country rarely disappoint when it comes to commitment and physicality, and this one was no exception. CA Batna and AS Khroub traded spells of pressure across the ninety minutes, but clear-cut chances were at a premium as two well-organised defensive units cancelled each other out for long periods.

The decisive goal arrived in a match where the margins were always going to be fine. Batna's willingness to commit bodies forward at the right moment proved the difference, and from there they defended their lead with the kind of grit that has long been associated with home form in Ligue 2.

Key Moments

• The breakthrough: CA Batna found the net with a sharp attacking move, the ball worked into the box before being converted with a first-time strike.
• Khroub's response: The visitors pushed forward after conceding, forcing a series of corners and free-kicks that tested the Batna defence.
• The crucial block: Batna's centre-back pairing produced a goal-saving intervention to deny an equaliser during the visitors' strongest spell.
• The final whistle: A disciplined defensive close-out secured all three points and a clean sheet for the hosts.

Tactical Story

The game was shaped by two contrasting approaches. CA Batna looked to progress quickly down the flanks and get crosses into the box, while AS Khroub favoured building patiently from the back and working the ball into midfield pockets. For much of the first hour, Khroub's possession was neat but lacked penetration against a compact defensive shape.

Once Batna took the lead, the tactical picture changed entirely. The hosts dropped their line slightly deeper, narrowed the spaces between the lines, and invited Khroub to play in front of them. It was a risky strategy at times, but the discipline of the back four and the work rate of the midfield ensured the visitors were largely restricted to shots from range.

Standout Performers

Batna's goalscorer will take the headlines, but the foundation of the victory lay in defence. The goalkeeper commanded his area well under sustained late pressure, while the midfield screen broke up a number of promising Khroub sequences. For the visitors, the wide players were their most threatening outlet, repeatedly carrying the ball into dangerous areas even as the game slipped away from them.

What It Means

Victory in a regional derby is worth more than just three points, and CA Batna will feel the psychological lift that comes with beating a familiar rival. It keeps them moving in the right direction in the Algerian Ligue Professionnelle 2 standings and reinforces their strength on home soil.

AS Khroub will be frustrated to leave empty-handed after a competitive display, but the performance offered positives. Turning territorial pressure into goals will be the priority as they look to climb the table in the coming weeks.
