One Taguig and Tainan City Steel shared the points in the AFC Challenge League after a 0-0 draw at the Rizal Memorial Stadium on 18 October 2026, a match that delivered tension and tactical discipline but no breakthrough in front of goal.

Match overview

The AFC Challenge League group-stage fixture pitted One Taguig’s energetic home approach against Tainan City Steel’s compact, counterattacking style. The Filipino side started brightly and pressed high, looking to force mistakes in the visitors’ build-up, while Tainan City Steel sat deeper and tried to strike through quick transitions.

Despite the contrasting styles, the teams cancelled each other out for long stretches. One Taguig enjoyed more possession and more corners, but Tainan City Steel defended their box with concentration and made the home side work hard for every shooting opportunity. At the other end, the visitors’ best moments came from set pieces and fast breaks, though the final ball was missing.

Key moments

• 9th minute: One Taguig’s first meaningful attack ended with a shot from the edge of the area that was held by the goalkeeper.
• 23rd minute: Tainan City Steel produced the game’s first header on target from a corner, forcing a save.
• 37th minute: A quick One Taguig counter ended with a low cross that was cleared before it could reach the striker.
• 54th minute: Tainan City Steel broke at speed, but the final shot was dragged wide of the far post.
• 71st minute: One Taguig’s free-kick from a promising position clipped the top of the wall and went over.
• 88th minute: A last-ditch block denied One Taguig a late winner after a scramble in the box.

Tactical story

One Taguig lined up with a high defensive line and aggressive midfield pressure, trying to pin Tainan City Steel inside their own half. The home side’s wide players stayed high, creating overloads on the flanks, but Tainan’s back four shifted across well and limited the quality of service into the penalty area.

Tainan City Steel were content to defend in a mid-to-low block and attack through the channels. Their midfielders dropped deep to protect the centre-backs, and their forwards worked hard to hold up play when the ball was cleared. The plan almost produced a smash-and-grab result, but the visitors lacked the final touch in the decisive moments.

Standout performers

One Taguig’s goalkeeper was reliable when called upon and commanded his area well from crosses. The home side’s central midfielders drove the team forward and kept the tempo high, while the wingers provided the most consistent attacking threat. For Tainan City Steel, the centre-backs were outstanding in the air and the goalkeeper made two important second-half saves to preserve the clean sheet.

What the point means

In the context of the AFC Challenge League group table, the draw keeps both teams within touching distance of the knockout places. One Taguig will be frustrated not to have converted their possession into goals, but they remain unbeaten and difficult to play against at home. Tainan City Steel will take confidence from a disciplined away performance and a clean sheet, especially against a side with plenty of attacking intent.

Next up

One Taguig will look to sharpen their finishing before their next group fixture, while Tainan City Steel will aim to build on the defensive resolve shown in Manila. Both camps will know that in a short group-stage format, draws must be converted into wins if they are to control their own qualification fate.
