Manila Digger FC Thrash Kasuka FC 5-0 in AFC Challenge League

Manila Digger FC produced a ruthless 5-0 victory over Kasuka FC in the AFC Challenge League on Sunday, 18 October 2026, turning a bright start into a comprehensive continental statement. The Filipino side were sharper in every phase of the game, pressing aggressively, moving the ball quickly and finishing with impressive efficiency.

Kasuka FC arrived with a compact defensive plan, but it was undone inside the opening 10 minutes. Manila Digger’s high press forced an early error, and the hosts capitalized to settle any nerves and set the tone for a one-sided contest.

Match Overview

The opening goal arrived in the 7th minute when Josef Reyes pounced on a loose ball inside the box and finished low into the corner. Manila Digger doubled their lead in the 24th minute through Mark Cortez, who met a cut-back from the right with a first-time strike. The third goal came just before half-time, with Reyes turning provider for a close-range finish after another sustained spell of pressure.

The second half brought no relief for Kasuka. Manila Digger added a fourth in the 63rd minute when a swift counter-attack ended with a composed finish from the edge of the area. The fifth arrived in the 81st minute, a header from a corner that capped a dominant team performance. Kasuka’s best moments came late, but Manila Digger’s goalkeeper remained alert to preserve the clean sheet.

Key Moments

• 7th minute: Josef Reyes opens the scoring after a high press forces a defensive mistake.
• 24th minute: Mark Cortez doubles the lead with a first-time finish from a right-sided cut-back.
• 45+2nd minute: Manila Digger add a third after a flowing move ends with a close-range finish.
• 63rd minute: A quick counter-attack produces the fourth goal.
• 81st minute: A headed goal from a corner makes it 5-0.

Tactical Story

Manila Digger’s pressing structure was too much for Kasuka to handle. The hosts won the ball high up the pitch repeatedly, and their wide players stretched the defence whenever play switched quickly. The midfield trio controlled the tempo, ensuring Manila Digger never allowed Kasuka to settle into a rhythm.

Kasuka attempted to defend in a low block, but poor clearance decisions and an inability to keep possession under pressure invited wave after wave of attacks. When Kasuka did break forward, Manila Digger’s defensive line stepped up well to catch them offside or snuff out the danger early.

Standout Performers

Reyes was at the heart of nearly everything, scoring one goal and assisting another. Cortez’s movement caused constant problems, while the midfield’s energy and passing range kept the team on the front foot. The clean sheet was also a credit to Manila Digger’s back line, which stayed focused despite the comfortable scoreline.

Competition Impact

The five-goal win gives Manila Digger FC a major boost in the AFC Challenge League and strengthens their goal difference in the group-stage picture. For Kasuka FC, the defeat is a difficult learning experience, but the focus must quickly shift to defensive organization and ball retention. Manila Digger, meanwhile, will believe this performance can be a springboard for the rest of the campaign.
