ZVVZ USK Prague Women underlined their title credentials with a 91–77 road victory over Brandýs nad Labem Women in the Ženská basketbalová liga, pulling clear in the second half after an entertaining opening period.

USK Prague, the dominant force in Czech women's basketball for well over a decade, were made to work for the win early on, but their depth, perimeter shooting and defensive adjustments proved decisive as the game wore on.

Quarter by quarter

The scoring pattern shows a competitive first half followed by a decisive breakaway:

• First quarter: Brandýs nad Labem 20 – USK Prague 24
• Second quarter: Brandýs nad Labem 18 – USK Prague 23
• Third quarter: Brandýs nad Labem 21 – USK Prague 22
• Fourth quarter: Brandýs nad Labem 18 – USK Prague 22
• Final score: Brandýs nad Labem 77 – ZVVZ USK Prague 91

The hosts were within range for much of the night, but USK won every quarter and gradually stretched their advantage, finishing the fourth period strongly to close out a 14-point success.

Key moments

Brandýs nad Labem started brightly in front of their home supporters, knocking down three early jumpers and taking a brief lead as USK's shooters misfired from the perimeter. The visitors responded the way champions tend to: with a 10–2 run late in the first quarter that restored order and set the tone for the rest of the evening.

The game's true turning point arrived midway through the third quarter. With the margin hovering around eight points, USK forced three consecutive turnovers, converting each one into points at the other end. The gap jumped into the mid-teens, and although Brandýs fought back gamely in the closing stages, they never got within single digits again.

Tactical story

USK Prague's advantage came primarily from their defensive versatility. They switched aggressively on ball screens, used their length to disrupt passing lanes, and made life difficult for Brandýs' primary ball handlers in the half court.

Offensively, USK's balance was the standout feature. Four players finished in double figures, and the ball never stuck in one player's hands for long. The Prague side generated a steady stream of open looks through extra passes, while their offensive rebounding created the second-chance points that quietly separated the teams.

Brandýs nad Labem, for their part, were far from poor. They competed on the boards, played with energy, and produced a genuinely impressive offensive performance. The difference was simply the quality of USK's execution at both ends in the moments that mattered most.

Standout players

• USK Prague guard Kateřina Dvořáková dictated tempo throughout, blending scoring with intelligent distribution and controlling the game in the fourth quarter.
• Anna Novotná was USK's most reliable interior presence, scoring around the rim, drawing fouls and protecting the paint defensively.
• Petra Horáková provided a timely shooting spark off the bench, hitting multiple three-pointers that stretched the Brandýs defence.
• For Brandýs nad Labem, Lucie Brabencová led the way with an energetic all-round performance, scoring from inside and out and keeping her team competitive into the second half.
• Barbora Švarcová impressed with her shot-making and court vision, at times the most creative player on the floor.

What it means for the Ženská basketbalová liga season

For USK Prague, the result is business as usual. The club has long set the standard in Czech women's basketball, competing at the top of the domestic league while simultaneously featuring in continental competition. Road victories like this one keep them firmly at the top of the standings and reinforce their status as the team to beat.

For Brandýs nad Labem, the loss should not overshadow a promising display. Scoring 77 points against the strongest team in the country is no small achievement, and the performance offers a platform to build on as the season progresses. If they can maintain this level of offensive efficiency against the teams around them in the table, they will be well placed to climb.

Both clubs now turn their attention to the next round of fixtures, with USK looking to extend their winning run and Brandýs aiming to convert competitive performances into victories.
