Quarter-by-Quarter Breakdown

UMMC set the tone immediately, outscoring the visitors 24-10 in the first quarter. Their half-court defense forced VLSU into contested shots and several shot-clock violations, while the offense clicked through crisp ball movement. The second quarter followed a similar pattern, with the hosts extending their advantage to 45-22 by the intermission.

The third quarter brought more of the same. UMMC’s bench players maintained the intensity, pushing the lead past 30 points. VLSU Vladimir managed brief spurts of scoring but could not string together enough stops to mount any realistic comeback. The final period was a formality, with UMMC emptying their bench and still outscoring the visitors 17-12 to close out the 37-point win.

Key Moments

The game’s decisive stretch came midway through the first quarter when UMMC rattled off a 14-0 run. That surge was sparked by back-to-back steals that turned into easy transition layups, forcing VLSU to call a timeout. The timeout did little to stem the tide, as UMMC’s defensive pressure continued to generate turnovers and fast-break opportunities.

Another noteworthy moment arrived late in the third quarter when UMMC’s reserve guard knocked down a deep three-pointer at the buzzer, capping a 10-2 run and sending the home crowd into a frenzy. It was a fitting exclamation point on a night where everything went right for the hosts.

Tactical Story

UMMC Ekaterinburg employed an aggressive full-court press that disrupted VLSU’s half-court sets from the outset. The visitors struggled to advance the ball past midcourt without turning it over, and when they did manage to set up their offense, UMMC’s switching defense limited clean looks. Offensively, UMMC leaned on their interior dominance, scoring 42 points in the paint, while also connecting on 9 of 22 attempts from beyond the arc.

VLSU Vladimir, by contrast, was forced into a perimeter-oriented attack. They shot just 30% from the field and committed 21 turnovers, which UMMC converted into 28 points. The size and athleticism gap was evident throughout, but VLSU’s coaching staff will take some positives from their team’s resilience in the second half, where they were outscored by only 12 points after the break.

Standout Players

UMMC’s leading scorer delivered a game-high 18 points on 7-of-11 shooting, adding 7 rebounds and 3 steals. Her activity on the defensive end set the tone early. The starting point guard orchestrated the offense masterfully, dishing out 10 assists against just 2 turnovers while chipping in 8 points. Off the bench, a versatile forward contributed 12 points and 6 rebounds in just 18 minutes, showcasing the team’s impressive depth.

For VLSU Vladimir, the brightest spot was their shooting guard, who finished with a team-high 14 points, including three three-pointers. She was one of the few visitors able to create her own shot against UMMC’s pressure. The team’s center added 8 points and 9 rebounds, battling hard on the glass despite constant double-teams.
