Nadezhda Women produced a controlled, professional performance to defeat Energy Ivanovo Women 77-67 in the Russian Women's Basketball Premier League on Sunday. The Orenburg side led from the opening minutes and, although Ivanovo threatened a comeback in the third quarter, Nadezhda's rebounding and perimeter shooting proved too much to overcome.

Nadezhda start fast and never look back

The hosts set the tone immediately, opening a 21-17 lead after the first quarter behind efficient inside scoring and a couple of quick transition baskets. Their defensive pressure forced Ivanovo into a series of late-clock attempts, and the visitors spent most of the first half chasing the game.

A strong second quarter stretched the advantage to 39-32 at the interval. Nadezhda's ball movement was the standout feature of the half: crisp extra passes out of the post found open shooters on the wing, and the hosts shot comfortably above their season average from the field.

Quarter-by-quarter scoring

Ivanovo's third-quarter surge

Energy Ivanovo came out of halftime with renewed aggression, switching to a more pressure-oriented defence and attacking the rim off the dribble. A 10-3 run early in the third cut the deficit to seven and briefly silenced the home crowd, with Ivanovo's shooting guard finding rhythm from mid-range.

Nadezhda's response was calm and decisive. A timeout settled the tempo, and the hosts answered with a 9-0 burst of their own, capped by a three-pointer from the top of the arc. From 58-46 at the end of the third, the contest was effectively decided, even though Ivanovo kept competing until the final buzzer.

Keys to the game

• Rebounding dominance: Nadezhda controlled both backboards, generating second-chance points and limiting Ivanovo to one shot on most possessions.
• Bench contribution: The hosts' reserves maintained the defensive standard and added valuable scoring in the second and fourth quarters.
• Free-throw efficiency: Nadezhda converted consistently from the line in the closing minutes to close the door on any late rally.
• Ivanovo's three-point struggles: A cold night from beyond the arc forced the visitors into difficult contested shots late in possessions.

Players who shaped the result

Nadezhda's leading scorer delivered a complete performance, blending perimeter shooting with drives to the basket, while their starting centre anchored the paint with a double-double and several important defensive stops during Ivanovo's third-quarter push. The point guard dictated tempo throughout, finishing with a healthy assist total and very few turnovers.

For Energy Ivanovo, the standout was their shooting guard, who kept her team within striking distance during the middle quarters. Their power forward battled hard on the glass against a bigger frontcourt and gave the visitors genuine energy off the bench rotation.

Standings and season impact

The victory strengthens Nadezhda's position in the upper half of the Russian Women's Basketball Premier League table and extends a solid run of home form that has become the foundation of their season. Winning these fixtures — against direct mid-table rivals — is often what separates a playoff push from a mediocre campaign.

Energy Ivanovo leave with a defeat but with plenty of encouragement. Their third-quarter fightback showed the team can compete with the league's stronger sides, and tightening up their perimeter shooting will be the priority before the next round. The two clubs will meet again later in the season, and that return fixture now carries an added edge.
