Unics Kazan edged Uralmash Ekaterinburg 69-68 in a tense Winline Basket Cup tie on October 25, 2026, advancing after a final defensive stop in the closing seconds. The road win was built on Unics’ half-court execution and calm finish at the free-throw line, while Uralmash were left with a one-point defeat despite a strong fourth-quarter push.

Match overview

The game was a low-scoring, defensive battle from the start. Unics led 17-16 after the first quarter, 35-34 at halftime and 52-51 after three, with neither team able to create meaningful separation. Uralmash’s size inside caused problems, but Unics’ guards controlled the tempo and limited turnovers in key moments.

Both teams struggled to find rhythm from beyond the arc, so the game was decided in the paint and at the free-throw line. Uralmash’s offensive rebounding gave them extra possessions, while Unics’ switching defense forced difficult shots late in the clock.

Key moments

With 1:20 left, Uralmash led 67-64 after a second-chance basket. Unics responded with a corner three from their shooting guard to tie the game, then forced a miss and converted two free throws for a 69-67 lead. Uralmash made one of two at the line with nine seconds left, but Unics’ defense denied a clean look on the final possession to secure the one-point win.

Tactical story

Unics’ switching defense was the story of the final quarter. They disrupted Uralmash’s pick-and-roll rhythm and forced the hosts into contested jump shots. On offense, Unics showed patience, moving the ball until they found an open shooter or a mismatch near the basket. Their experience in close games showed in the final two minutes.

Uralmash controlled the offensive glass for long stretches and used their interior size to score second-chance points. However, their late-shot selection and free-throw shooting let them down in the closing seconds. The hosts will look back at a handful of empty possessions as the difference in a game that could have gone either way.

Standout performers

Unics’ combo guard led the team with 18 points and five assists, including the crucial corner three in the final minute. The center added 14 points and 10 rebounds, providing stability inside. For Uralmash, the forward finished with 17 points and 12 rebounds, while the guard added 15 points and four assists.

Cup implications

The win keeps Unics Kazan moving forward in the Winline Basket Cup and gives them confidence ahead of their next fixtures. Uralmash exit with a narrow defeat but can take positives from their defensive effort and rebounding. In cup competition, execution in the final minute often separates the teams that advance from those that fall short.
