Sporting CP Women secured a convincing 79-65 home victory over Coimbroes Women in the Liga Feminina de Basquetebol on October 17, 2026. Sporting used a balanced offensive attack and a decisive third-quarter run to pull away, strengthening their position among the league’s early front-runners.

Match overview

Sporting opened with a 21-15 first-quarter advantage, then maintained their edge with a 19-18 second period. At halftime, the hosts led 40-33. The game turned in the third quarter, when Sporting outscored Coimbroes 23-16 to build a 63-49 lead. The final period was more evenly matched, but the outcome was never in serious doubt.

Coimbroes competed hard on the glass and forced Sporting into several turnovers, but the visitors struggled to convert inside against Sporting’s length. Sporting’s ball movement was excellent, particularly in transition, and their perimeter shooting opened up driving lanes throughout the second half.

Key moments

• Third-quarter surge: Sporting opened the second half with a 12-4 run, pushing the lead to double digits and forcing Coimbroes into a timeout.
• Defensive stops: Three consecutive stops midway through the third quarter led to easy transition baskets and broke the game open.
• Fourth-quarter control: Sporting slowed the pace and protected the ball, denying Coimbroes any chance of a late comeback.

Tactical story

Sporting’s full-court pressure disrupted Coimbroes’s half-court rhythm, especially in the third quarter. The hosts rotated well on defense, contested three-point attempts, and limited second-chance points. On offense, Sporting used inside-out action to create open looks, with their post players drawing double-teams and kicking out to shooters.

Coimbroes tried to slow the game with a zone defense, but Sporting’s high-post passing and offensive rebounding proved effective. The visitors’ best stretch came late in the first half, when they cut the deficit to seven, but they could not sustain that intensity after the break.

Standout performers

Sporting’s shooting guard was the game’s most efficient scorer, mixing three-point accuracy with aggressive drives. Their starting center controlled the paint on both ends, while the bench provided energy and defensive intensity. For Coimbroes, the point guard competed throughout and created several open looks, but the team’s shooting faded in the second half.

Season impact

The win keeps Sporting CP Women in the title conversation and reinforces their home-court strength in the Liga Feminina de Basquetebol. Coimbroes Women will take positives from their first-half competitiveness, but they must improve their third-quarter execution to compete with the league’s top sides. Sporting’s depth and defensive versatility remain major assets as the season progresses.
