Quinta Dos Lombos Women secured a hard-fought 61-53 victory over CP Esgueira Women in the Liga Feminina de Basquetebol, grinding out a win built on defensive discipline and second-half execution. In a game where neither side shot the ball particularly well, the hosts' ability to manufacture points in the paint proved decisive.

Match Overview

The first half was a scrappy, physical affair. Both teams struggled to find rhythm from the perimeter, and the scoreline stayed close through the opening two quarters as each side traded baskets in the half-court. Esgueira's zone defence caused early problems for Quinta Dos Lombos, who settled for contested jumpers rather than attacking the gaps.

The game turned after halftime. Quinta Dos Lombos adjusted, attacked the middle of the zone and began converting around the rim, gradually building a lead they would not surrender.

Key Moments

• First quarter: A low-scoring, defence-dominated start with both teams trading blows in the paint.
• Second quarter: Esgueira briefly took the lead with a short run before Quinta Dos Lombos answered before the break.
• Third quarter: The hosts opened the second half with renewed intensity, pushing the ball inside and forcing fouls.
• Fourth quarter: Quinta Dos Lombos controlled the tempo, protecting their lead at the free-throw line in the closing minutes.

Tactical Story

This was a game won on the boards and in the paint. Quinta Dos Lombos' interior presence gave them a steady source of points when jump shots were not falling, and their offensive rebounding created repeated second-chance opportunities that wore Esgueira down. Defensively, they limited the visitors' best shooters to difficult, well-contested attempts.

Esgueira, meanwhile, will rue a cold shooting night. Their ball movement was patient and their defensive effort was excellent for long stretches, but too many possessions ended without a quality look, and the offence stalled whenever Quinta Dos Lombos cranked up the pressure.

Standout Performers

Quinta Dos Lombos' interior players set the tone, finishing efficiently around the basket and drawing contact to get to the line. Their guards managed the game intelligently, slowing the pace when the lead needed protecting. For Esgueira, the defensive effort stood out — particularly the work on the glass in the first half — but the offence lacked a consistent creator down the stretch.

Season Impact

The win strengthens Quinta Dos Lombos' position in the Portuguese women's top flight, adding a valuable home victory to their record. The team's ability to win ugly — leaning on defence when the shots are not dropping — is a quality that separates playoff teams from mid-table sides.

CP Esgueira Women leave with a narrow defeat but plenty of positives. Tightening their offensive execution will be the priority as the season progresses, because their defensive foundation is clearly strong enough to keep them competitive in every game.

Final score: Quinta Dos Lombos Women 61 – 53 CP Esgueira Women.
