Barreiro dominated the paint and won the rebounding battle, but their late-game execution faltered. Azores’ guards handled Barreiro’s full-court pressure well in the final minutes, and their ability to knock down free throws under pressure proved crucial. The tactical battle was a contrast between Barreiro’s inside power and Azores’ outside shooting and quick ball movement.

Standout Players

Azores’ Sofia Almeida led all scorers with 23 points, including five three-pointers. Ines Ferreira added 18 points and six rebounds, while Mariana Costa contributed 12 points. For Barreiro, Joana Silva scored 21 points and grabbed nine rebounds, and Rita Santos added 16 points. Barreiro’s bench provided a spark, but the team could not convert in the final seconds.

Season Impact

Gdessa Barreiro Women will be frustrated to lose such a close game but can take encouragement from their overall performance. The head-to-head result could prove significant if the teams are separated by a single game later in the season.
