CP Esgueira Women delivered a strong home performance in the Liga Feminina de Basquetebol, defeating Basquete de Barcelos Women 89-76 on October 19, 2026. The win was built on energetic defense, quick transition play, and a balanced scoring attack that kept Barcelos under pressure for long stretches.

Match Overview

Esgueira started with intent and established an early advantage, but Barcelos remained within reach through the first half. The game turned in the third quarter, when Esgueira increased their defensive intensity and turned stops into easy baskets. From there, the home side controlled the tempo and maintained a comfortable cushion through the final minutes.

Key Moments

The decisive run came midway through the third quarter. Esgueira forced several turnovers and converted them into fast-break points, pushing the lead into double digits. Barcelos tried to respond from beyond the arc, but Esgueira’s closeouts and defensive rotations limited clean looks. A late surge from Barcelos in the fourth quarter never seriously threatened the outcome, as Esgueira answered with timely baskets and free throws.

Tactical Story

Esgueira’s full-court pressure was a central theme. It disrupted Barcelos’ half-court sets and created extra possessions, which the home side used efficiently. On offense, Esgueira shared the ball well and attacked the paint before kicking out to open shooters. Barcelos competed on the boards and had productive stretches in the half-court, but their turnover count and difficulty containing Esgueira’s guards proved costly.

Standout Players

Marta Oliveira paced CP Esgueira Women with 24 points, while Inês Costa added 18 points and nine rebounds. Sofia Almeida also made an impact with 14 points and several key defensive plays. For Basquete de Barcelos Women, Ana Ferreira led the scoring with 20 points, supported by 15 from Rita Sousa. Esgueira’s depth and defensive energy ultimately outweighed Barcelos’ individual efforts.

Season Impact

The victory strengthens Esgueira’s home record and gives them confidence as they push up the Liga Feminina de Basquetebol standings. Barcelos will look to regroup defensively and reduce turnovers before their next fixture. With the season still developing, Esgueira’s ability to dictate tempo at home could become an important advantage in the race for position.
