The Lisbon side controlled the game from the opening quarter, using balanced scoring and disruptive defense to build a lead that never seriously came under threat. The 25-point margin underlined Benfica’s efficiency at both ends and left CDEFF searching for answers after a difficult home outing.

Benfica started with purpose, attacking the basket early and forcing CDEFF into contested shots. Key moments

The defining run came in the second quarter. With CDEFF threatening to cut the deficit to single digits, Benfica responded with a 12-0 burst built on defensive stops and quick transition finishes. The run silenced the home crowd and gave the visitors a comfortable cushion at halftime. Early in the third quarter, Benfica added another 9-2 surge, pushing the lead beyond 20 and forcing CDEFF to chase the game for the remainder of the evening.

Tactical story

Benfica’s defensive discipline stood out. The visitors closed down driving lanes, rotated well on the perimeter, and limited CDEFF’s second-chance opportunities by controlling the defensive glass. Offensively, Benfica shared the ball effectively and punished CDEFF’s help defense with timely kick-out passes. The visitors also ran the floor with purpose, turning defensive rebounds into fast-break points and keeping constant pressure on the home side’s transition defense.

CDEFF’s best spells came when they slowed the tempo and worked the ball inside, but those moments were too infrequent. Turnovers and empty possessions allowed Benfica to maintain control, and the home side’s shooting struggles from beyond the arc made the comeback task even harder.

Standout performers

Benfica’s backcourt leader was instrumental, finishing with 20 points and seven assists while dictating the pace throughout. The visitors’ forward added 16 points and nine rebounds, giving Benfica a reliable interior presence on both ends. CDEFF’s top performer scored 16 points and grabbed eight rebounds, but she received limited support as Benfica’s defense tightened in the second half.

Season impact

The win gives Benfica valuable momentum in the Liga Feminina de Basquetebol standings and reinforces their credentials as a team capable of winning on the road. For CDEFF, the loss is a reminder of the margin for error in a competitive league. The head-to-head result will boost Benfica’s confidence, while CDEFF must improve their ball security and perimeter shooting before the next fixture.
