Benfica Women cruise past Sanjannis 97-50 in Liga Feminina de Basquetebol

Benfica Women delivered a ruthless 97-50 home victory over Sanjannis women’s basketball team in the Liga Feminina de Basquetebol on October 10, 2026. The Lisbon giants controlled the game from the opening minutes, using full-court pressure and deep bench scoring to overwhelm their opponents.

The 47-point margin was Benfica’s most emphatic win of the early season and served notice that they intend to set the pace in the Portuguese women’s top flight. Sanjannis never found an answer for Benfica’s defensive intensity or their transition attack.

Match overview

Benfica set the tone immediately, racing to a 28-12 lead after the first quarter. They extended the advantage to 52-25 at halftime and 75-39 after three quarters. The fourth quarter was more of the same, with Benfica’s reserves maintaining the pressure and closing out a 22-11 period for the final 97-50 scoreline.

Benfica’s defense forced turnovers on nearly every possession in the first half, and their offense converted those mistakes into easy layups and open three-pointers. Sanjannis struggled to get into any offensive rhythm and were held to single-digit scoring in the final quarter.

Key moments

• Opening blitz: Benfica began with a 15-0 run, forcing Sanjannis into an early timeout.
• Full-court pressure: A series of steals in the second quarter pushed the lead past 25 points.
• Bench impact: Benfica’s reserves scored 20 points in the third quarter alone.
• Closing statement: The hosts finished with a 12-2 run to cap the 97-50 win.

Tactical story

Benfica’s game plan was simple but devastating: press, trap, and run. They denied Sanjannis’s guards the ball, forced long cross-court passes, and turned steals into fast-break points. In the half court, Benfica used high-low action and quick ball reversals to create open shots for their perimeter players.

Sanjannis tried to slow the game with zone defense, but Benfica’s shooting was too accurate. The visitors also struggled on the boards, giving up numerous second-chance points. When Sanjannis did break the press, they often rushed their shots and missed open looks.

Standout players

Benfica’s starting guards dictated the pace and combined for a high number of assists and steals. Their center controlled the paint, altering shots and finishing efficiently around the rim. Several bench players made the most of extended minutes, showing that Benfica have the depth to sustain their title challenge. Sanjannis’s captain worked hard on both ends, but she received limited support.

Season impact

The result strengthens Benfica Women’s position at the top of the Liga Feminina de Basquetebol standings and boosts their point differential. Sanjannis women’s basketball team will need to regroup quickly, especially on offense, if they are to compete in the coming rounds. For Benfica, the focus now shifts to maintaining this level of intensity across the long Portuguese season.
