SiChuan JinQiang Women's 92-70 Cathay Life Women: Hosts Control FIBA Women's Basketball League Asia Clash

SiChuan JinQiang Women's produced one of the more complete performances of their FIBA Women's Basketball League Asia campaign on 20 October 2026, defeating Cathay Life Women 92-70 at home. The 22-point winning margin reflected the hosts' control on both ends, with SiChuan turning early offensive rhythm into a lead they never surrendered.

The game was billed as a test of SiChuan's frontcourt power against Cathay Life's perimeter movement. The hosts answered by owning the paint, pushing tempo after makes, and forcing Cathay Life into long, contested possessions. By the time the fourth quarter began, the contest had settled into a clear pattern: SiChuan dictating terms and Cathay Life searching for a response.

Match overview

SiChuan opened with an aggressive defensive stance, denying easy entry passes and using their size to contest shots around the rim. The hosts scored early in transition and built confidence from the free-throw line. Cathay Life stayed within reach in the first period through patient half-court sets and timely three-point shooting, but the weight of SiChuan's inside scoring began to tell.

The decisive stretch came across the middle quarters. SiChuan strung together a run built on defensive stops, second-chance points, and quick ball movement. When Cathay Life collapsed toward the paint, the hosts found open shooters; when the defense spread out, SiChuan attacked the basket again. That two-way balance turned a competitive opening into a comfortable lead.

Key moments

• SiChuan's late first-half run created separation and forced Cathay Life into a more urgent, perimeter-oriented attack.
• A third-quarter burst of consecutive defensive stops allowed the hosts to push the margin beyond 15 points.
• Cathay Life briefly cut into the deficit with back-to-back threes, but SiChuan answered immediately with an and-one and a transition layup.
• The hosts closed the third quarter with control of the defensive glass, effectively ending the comeback threat.

Tactical story

The defining battle was inside. SiChuan's post players established deep position and drew help defenders, creating open looks for cutters and shooters. Defensively, the hosts hedged effectively on screens and recovered well enough to prevent Cathay Life from finding a steady rhythm from beyond the arc. Cathay Life's offense was at its best when the ball moved quickly and the guards attacked before the defense set, but those moments were too infrequent.

SiChuan also won the hustle categories: loose balls, offensive rebounds, and transition opportunities. Those extra possessions proved valuable against a Cathay Life side that needed a high shooting percentage to stay close. The hosts' bench maintained energy in the rotation minutes, ensuring the intensity did not drop when the starters rested.

Standout performers

SiChuan's backcourt managed the game well, balancing tempo with patience and finding the right entry passes in the half court. The frontcourt pairing controlled the boards and made Cathay Life pay for smaller lineups. For Cathay Life, the guard play was the bright spot; the team's best stretches came when it played with pace and generated open catch-and-shoot chances.

What it means

The result strengthens SiChuan JinQiang Women's position in the FIBA Women's Basketball League Asia table and adds another confident home performance to their resume. For Cathay Life Women, the focus will be on reducing turnovers and finding more consistent interior scoring before the next fixture. The final score of 92-70 will read as a straightforward win, but it was SiChuan's control of tempo, paint, and possession count that made the difference.
