Key moments

Cathay Life’s decisive run came midway through the fourth quarter. With KB Stars threatening to take the lead, the visitors strung together a 7-0 burst fueled by a corner three-pointer, a transition layup, and an offensive rebound that led to free throws. That sequence turned a one-point game into a 66-60 cushion.

KB Stars refused to go away. A pair of quick baskets cut the deficit to 68-65 with just over a minute remaining, but Cathay Life answered with a calm mid-range jumper and then made enough free throws in the closing seconds to seal the win. The final margin of five points flattered KB Stars slightly, as Cathay Life controlled the final 90 seconds.

Tactical story

Cathay Life’s perimeter defense was the story of the game. The visitors switched effectively on screens and forced KB Stars into contested jump shots late in the shot clock. KB Stars finished with 16 turnovers, several of which came during their fourth-quarter comeback attempt.

On offense, Cathay Life shared the ball well and attacked the offensive glass. Their ability to create second-chance points offset a modest shooting night from inside the arc. KB Stars, by contrast, relied heavily on isolation plays and struggled to generate clean looks when Cathay Life tightened its defense.

Standout performers

Cathay Life’s backcourt leader was the best player on the floor, scoring a game-high 21 points and adding six assists. She controlled the tempo in the fourth quarter and made several intelligent decisions against KB Stars’ pressure. Cathay Life’s forward also contributed a double-digit scoring effort and was active on the offensive boards.

For KB Stars, the center recorded a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds, keeping her team in the game with strong work in the paint. The home side’s guards combined for 25 points but also committed key turnovers in the final period.

Season impact

The win strengthens Cathay Life Women’s position in the FIBA Women’s Basketball League Asia standings and gives the team confidence on the road. KB Stars remain competitive, but this loss highlights the importance of late-game execution in a competition where margins are often small.

The head-to-head result could matter if the teams are level on wins later in the group phase. For now, Cathay Life can take satisfaction from a disciplined road performance, while KB Stars will focus on reducing turnovers and improving their half-court offense.
