The third quarter brought more of the same, and the home side emptied the bench in the fourth while maintaining their defensive intensity.

How the Game Unfolded

The opening minutes established the pattern: Athinaikos pushed the pace, forced Panseraikos into rushed shots, and converted defensive rebounds into transition opportunities. Their guards repeatedly penetrated the lane, drawing help defenders and kicking the ball to open shooters. Panseraikos struggled to contain the dribble drive and was often late closing out on the perimeter.

In the second half, Athinaikos’ bench players maintained the standard. The team’s ball movement remained sharp, and their defensive rotations were consistently ahead of Panseraikos’ cuts. Panseraikos found some success in the post during the third quarter, but Athinaikos answered immediately with three-pointers and fast-break baskets.

Key Moments

The decisive run came late in the first quarter, when Athinaikos closed on a 10-2 burst to turn a close game into a double-digit lead. Early in the third quarter, a pair of steals led to consecutive layups that pushed the advantage past 25 points and effectively ended Panseraikos’ hopes of a comeback.

Tactical Story

Athinaikos’ defensive pressure was the foundation of the win. They contested passing lanes, forced turnovers, and limited Panseraikos to difficult contested jumpers. Offensively, the team shared the ball well, finishing with a high assist total and a balanced scoring distribution. Panseraikos, by contrast, relied heavily on individual plays and struggled to generate clean looks against a set defense.

Standout Players

Athinaikos forward Maria Kostaki led the team with 24 points and 10 rebounds, dominating the paint and finishing efficiently around the rim. Guard Eleni Papadopoulou added 18 points and nine assists, orchestrating the offense with poise. For Panseraikos, guard Sofia Georgiou scored 16 points, while forward Katerina Dimitriou added 12 points and seven rebounds.

What the Result Means

The win boosts Sony Athinaikos Women in the Greek A1 Women's Basket League standings and sends a clear message about their ambitions this season.
