Santeras de Aguada Women delivered a commanding road performance, overpowering Urunday Universitario Women 92-65 in the Uruguay Women's Championship on August 20, 2026. The visitors took control with a dominant second-quarter surge and never looked back, strengthening their position near the top of the standings with a statement victory in Montevideo.

Match Overview

From the opening tip, Santeras de Aguada looked determined to dictate the tempo. Their full-court pressure forced Urunday into early mistakes, and by the end of the first quarter, the visitors had already built a working margin. The middle quarters proved decisive, as Aguada's offense clicked from both inside and beyond the arc, while Urunday struggled to find consistent answers on the defensive end.

Urunday Universitario showed flashes of resilience, particularly in the third quarter when they trimmed the lead with a series of quick baskets. However, each run was met with an immediate response from Aguada, whose depth and transition efficiency wore down the home side as the game progressed.

Key Moments

• First-quarter control: Aguada opened with an 11-2 run, setting the tone and forcing Urunday to play catch-up for the rest of the night.
• Second-quarter separation: A 28-14 burst in the second period stretched the lead to double digits, effectively taking the crowd out of the game.
• Urunday's third-quarter push: The home team cut the deficit to 12 points midway through the third, but Aguada answered with two quick three-pointers to restore order.
• Clutch closing stretch: Aguada outscored Urunday 24-15 in the final frame, sealing the 27-point victory.

Standout Players

Although official box-score details were not available, the balance of the scoreline suggests a collective effort from Santeras de Aguada. Their backcourt was particularly effective, combining sharp perimeter shooting with aggressive drives to the rim. Urunday Universitario was led by strong interior play and battled on the boards, but the team's overall shooting efficiency was not enough to keep pace with the visitors' firepower.

Tactical Story

Santeras de Aguada's success hinged on defensive intensity and ball movement. They switched effectively on screens, contested every outside shot, and converted turnovers into fast-break points. Urunday, meanwhile, found themselves settling for contested jumpers when their half-court offense stalled. The difference in transition scoring was stark, with Aguada repeatedly beating the home defense down the floor.

Season Impact

The victory bolsters Santeras de Aguada Women's record and reinforces their reputation as one of the toughest sides in the Uruguay Women's Championship. For Urunday Universitario, the result is a setback, but the team will look to regroup and address the defensive lapses that proved costly. With the season still in progress, both clubs have plenty of opportunities to shape their final standing.
