On the final day of August 2026, Santeras de Aguada Women delivered a commanding performance to defeat Malvin Women 80–65 in the Uruguay Women's Championship. The victory, played out on home court, reinforced Aguada's standing as one of the most consistent sides in the league while handing Malvin a difficult lesson on the road.

Match Overview

The game was decided in the middle quarters. After a tight opening ten minutes, Aguada found their rhythm offensively and used a decisive 23–14 second-quarter surge to take control. Malvin fought back in the third, trimming the deficit to single digits, but Aguada responded with composure in the fourth and eventually pulled away to seal a comfortable 15-point win.

The final scoreline of 80–65 reflected Aguada's superior execution in transition and on the glass. The home side also showed greater depth, rotating effectively to keep the pressure on Malvin's starting unit.

Key Moments

• First-quarter battle: Both teams traded baskets early, with Malvin matching Aguada's intensity to keep the score level at 18–18.
• Second-quarter run: Aguada outscored Malvin 23–14, stretching the lead to nine points at halftime. A pair of quick three-pointers broke the game open.
• Third-quarter response: Malvin cut the lead to six points midway through the third, but Aguada answered with an 8–0 run to regain full control.
• Fourth-quarter finish: Aguada closed the game efficiently from the free-throw line, pushing the lead to 15 and never allowing Malvin back into contention.

Tactical Story

Aguada’s success was built on defensive pressure and fast-break scoring. They forced Malvin into difficult perimeter shots and dominated the offensive boards, leading to multiple second-chance opportunities. The home team’s guards controlled the tempo, rarely rushing possessions but striking quickly when Malvin's defense overcommitted.

Malvin, by contrast, relied heavily on their starting five and struggled to generate consistent scoring once Aguada adjusted their pick-and-roll coverage in the second half. Turnovers proved costly, as Aguada converted several live-ball mistakes into easy layups at the other end.

Standout Players

For Aguada, the starting backcourt set the tone all evening. Their playmaking and outside shooting were key to the decisive second-quarter run, while the frontcourt provided the necessary rebounding edge. On the Malvin side, the team’s leading scorer kept them in the game during the third quarter, but the lack of support from the bench made a comeback unlikely.

Season and Standings Impact

The win gives Santeras de Aguada Women valuable momentum in the Uruguay Women's Championship standings. With the result, they strengthen their position among the league’s top contenders, showcasing the kind of balanced performance that could carry them deep into the postseason.

For Malvin Women, the defeat highlights areas for improvement, particularly on defense and in maintaining offensive flow against physical opposition. They will look to regroup in their next fixture and address the slow-start issues that allowed Aguada to take control early.

As the regular season progresses, this match serves as a reminder that home-court advantage, combined with disciplined team basketball, remains a powerful formula in the Uruguay Women's Championship.
