Santeras de Aguada Women claimed a strong away victory on September 4, 2026, defeating Malvin Women 85-74 in an entertaining Uruguay Women’s Championship clash. The result gave Aguada a valuable road win and put an immediate gap between them and their hosts in a game that was tighter than the final margin suggests.

Match Overview

From the opening stages, Malvin showed they were comfortable playing in front of their home fans, matching Aguada’s energy and trading baskets in the early exchanges. Both teams moved the ball well and looked to push the tempo, but it was Santeras de Aguada who slowly found greater offensive clarity as the first half progressed.

Aguada’s defensive pressure became more consistent after the opening period, forcing Malvin into difficult looks and creating transition opportunities at the other end. The visitors used that defensive spark to take control, building a lead that would prove decisive once the match entered its closing stages.

Key Moments

• Third-quarter separation: After a competitive first half, Aguada raised the intensity after the break and opened up a double-digit advantage. Their ability to score in bursts during this stretch was the defining factor of the game.
• Malvin’s response: The home team did not go away quietly. Malvin trimmed the lead late in the fourth quarter with aggressive drives and timely outside shooting, forcing Aguada to stay focused down the stretch.
• Clutch execution: In the final minutes, Aguada slowed the game down, took care of the ball, and converted from the free-throw line to protect their lead and close out the victory.

Tactical Story

Santeras de Aguada Women were the more balanced side on the day. Their offense was not overly dependent on one player, with contributions coming from both the perimeter and the paint. That balance made them difficult to defend, especially when Malvin was forced to send extra help toward the basket.

Defensively, Aguada made life uncomfortable for Malvin’s playmakers. By contesting every pass and pressuring ball handlers, the visitors disrupted the home team’s rhythm and limited their clean looks for long stretches. Malvin had to work hard for every point, and the extra energy spent on offense made it harder for them to sustain a serious comeback.

Why This Result Matters

Matches like this carry real weight in the Uruguay Women’s Championship, where home-court advantage often matters. Aguada’s ability to travel and produce a disciplined 85-point performance shows the depth and maturity of their roster.

Malvin will take positives from their fight in the fourth quarter, but the loss highlights the need for stronger defensive consistency and a quicker response when the opposing team changes the pace of the game. For Santeras de Aguada, the victory builds momentum and reinforces their status as one of the teams to watch in the competition.

With the final score reading Malvin Women 74, Santeras de Aguada Women 85, the visitors took both the result and the momentum back home with them.
