Lagomar Women Crush Yale Women 90-24 in Uruguay Women’s Championship Rout

In a one-sided affair that underscored the widening gap in the Uruguay Women's Championship, Lagomar Women delivered a merciless 90-24 victory over Yale Women on July 17, 2026. The match, played at the Lagomar Sports Center, saw the home side race to a staggering 66-point win, leaving no doubt about their championship credentials.

Match Overview: Complete Dominance From the Opening Tip

From the very first quarter, Lagomar set a tone of aggressive defense and fluid offense. They jumped to an early 28-6 lead after the first period, effectively ending the contest before halftime. By the break, the scoreboard read 52-12, with Yale struggling to find any rhythm against Lagomar’s relentless full-court pressure.

The second half offered no respite for Yale. Lagomar continued to rotate their bench while maintaining a stifling defensive intensity, holding Yale to single-digit scoring in the third period (24-6 in the quarter). The final frame was a formality, with Lagomar coasting to the 90-24 final.

Key Factors: Defense and Transition Offense

• Defensive pressure: Lagomar forced over 30 turnovers, converting them into fast-break points. Yale rarely managed to set up their half-court offense.
• Rebounding dominance: Lagomar outrebounded Yale 52-18, controlling both ends of the glass and limiting second-chance opportunities for the visitors.
• Balanced scoring: Five Lagomar players reached double figures, showcasing the team’s depth. Center Maria Silveira led all scorers with 22 points and 14 rebounds.
• Yale’s struggles: Yale shot just 16% from the field and managed only two assists as a team, highlighting their inability to create quality looks.

Standout Performers

Maria Silveira (Lagomar) was the star of the night, recording a double-double with 22 points and 14 rebounds. Her presence in the paint was overwhelming, and she also added 4 blocks. Guard Lucia Fernandez contributed 18 points and 8 steals, constantly disrupting Yale’s ball handlers.

For Yale, forward Sofia Martinez was the lone bright spot, scoring 10 points on 4-of-11 shooting. However, she received little support from her teammates, as no other player managed more than 6 points.

Table and Season Impact

The emphatic win pushes Lagomar Women (7-1) to the top of the Uruguay Women's Championship standings, strengthening their title chase. Yale Women (1-7) remain near the bottom, still searching for answers after their fourth consecutive loss. The result also improves Lagomar’s already formidable point differential, a key tiebreaker should the race tighten in the second half of the season.

With this performance, Lagomar sent a clear message to the rest of the league: they are the team to beat in the 2026 campaign. Yale, meanwhile, will need to regroup quickly as they face another tough opponent next week.
