Lagomar Women secured a hard-fought 60-54 victory over Club Atletico Yale Women in the Uruguay Women's Championship, producing a composed second-half display to leave the home side chasing the game at the final buzzer.

The contest, played in a tense atmosphere on August 24, 2026, was a defensive battle for much of the night. Yale kept the game within reach through disciplined rotations, but Lagomar’s execution in the key stretches proved decisive, allowing them to return home with a valuable away win.

Match Overview: A tight contest decided in the fourth quarter

From the opening tip, both sides showed why they are considered competitive forces in the Uruguay Women's Championship. Yale matched Lagomar's intensity, and the first half was marked by lead changes and strong interior play. However, it was Lagomar's ability to maintain offensive composure in the final period that made the difference, closing the game with a series of well-timed baskets and crucial stops.

The 54-60 final scoreline reflects a contest that was never completely one-sided. Yale fought to the final possession, but Lagomar's late-game poise and superior rebounding in crunch time ensured they protected their lead until the horns sounded.

Key Moments and Turning Points

• A decisive run in the third quarter: Lagomar used a 7-0 stretch to take control of the momentum, forcing Yale out of their offensive rhythm.
• Clutch free throws down the stretch: With the margin tight in the final two minutes, Lagomar calmly converted from the line to keep Yale at arm's length.
• Defensive stops in the paint: Yale attempted to push the ball inside late, but Lagomar's help defense held firm, denying an easy path back into the contest.

Tactical Story: Defense and Rebounding Win the Day

Lagomar's game plan centered on limiting Yale's transition opportunities while crashing the offensive boards for second-chance points. The visitors also showed good ball movement in the half-court, creating open looks at crucial moments. Yale, meanwhile, will look back on a stretch of missed opportunities from mid-range as the area where the game slipped away, despite a strong collective effort on the defensive end.

Standout Players and Team Effort

While individual statistics from the match are not yet available, the flow of the game pointed to a balanced Lagomar attack. Their backcourt provided steady leadership, while the frontcourt's work on the boards proved pivotal. For Yale, the guard play kept the home side in contention, but consistent scoring from the bench was hard to come by against a physical Lagomar defense.

Table Impact and Looking Ahead

This result will provide Lagomar with a significant confidence boost as they continue their campaign in the Uruguay Women's Championship. For Yale, the narrow defeat signals that they can compete with the league's stronger sides, but they will need to convert close games into victories as they chase a higher place in the standings. With the championship still wide open, both teams will aim to build on their performances in the coming matchdays.
