Urunday Universitario Women produced a composed road performance to defeat Atletico Tabare W 65–56 in the Uruguay Women's Championship on September 3, 2026. The victory was built on a disciplined first-quarter start and a crucial defensive lift whenever Atletico Tabare threatened to make a late push.

Match Overview

Playing away from home, Urunday Universitario set the tone early with patient ball movement and aggressive transition defense. By the end of the opening quarter, they had already opened a double-digit lead, forcing Atletico Tabare to chase the game for the remainder of the contest.

Atletico Tabare showed resilience in the middle quarters, trimming the deficit through quick inside scoring and second-chance opportunities. However, Urunday Universitario responded each time with timely perimeter baskets and a stronger closing stretch, allowing them to finish with a comfortable nine-point margin.

Key Moments

• Fast start for the visitors: Urunday Universitario sprinted to a 15–6 lead in the first six minutes, putting immediate pressure on the home side.
• Third-quarter response: Atletico Tabare cut the lead to four points midway through the third period, but Urunday answered with an 8–0 run to regain control.
• Clutch free throws: In the final two minutes, Urunday converted from the line to keep the game out of reach and secure the 65–56 result.

Tactical Story

Urunday Universitario’s success was rooted in defensive intensity and balanced scoring. They contested nearly every possession and forced Atletico Tabare into difficult half-court looks. Offensively, the visitors shared the ball effectively, with multiple players contributing in double figures and no single scorer carrying the entire load.

Atletico Tabare, meanwhile, relied heavily on paint touches and offensive rebounding. Their effort was visible, but inconsistent outside shooting and turnovers in key stretches made it difficult to sustain momentum. Despite a stronger second half, the early deficit proved too large to overcome.

Standout Performances

For Urunday Universitario, the guard rotation was especially effective in transition, creating easy baskets and keeping the tempo in their favor. The team’s interior defense also made a difference, limiting Atletico Tabare’s most efficient scoring spots late in the game.

Atletico Tabare found their spark off the bench, with an energetic stretch in the third quarter that briefly shifted the momentum. Solid contributions from their forwards helped them stay competitive on the boards, but a lack of consistent perimeter accuracy hindered their comeback attempt.

Season Impact

The result gives Urunday Universitario Women a valuable away win in the Uruguay Women's Championship standings and builds confidence as the season progresses. For Atletico Tabare W, the narrow defeat highlights areas for improvement, particularly in defensive communication during the opening period and late-game execution.

Both teams will take important lessons from this matchup as the league race continues. Urunday Universitario will look to carry this momentum forward, while Atletico Tabare will aim to turn a competitive performance into a win in their next fixture.
