Reducto escaped with a dramatic 84-83 road victory over Sportivo Capitol in Uruguay Tercera de Ascenso action on October 2, 2026, winning a game that was decided in the final seconds and could have major implications in the promotion race.

Match Overview

In a contest that featured 11 lead changes and six ties, Reducto found just enough offensive rhythm late to hand Sportivo Capitol a painful one-point defeat. The visitors trailed for much of the second half but closed the game with a composed final possession, converting at the free-throw line to secure the win.

Sportivo Capitol controlled the tempo early and looked comfortable in front of its home crowd, but Reducto’s half-court defense tightened in the fourth quarter. The win moves Reducto into a stronger position in the Tercera de Ascenso standings, while Sportivo Capitol is left ruing missed opportunities in the closing minutes.

Key Moments

• First quarter: Sportivo Capitol started aggressively, attacking the paint and building a 22-18 lead behind efficient inside scoring.
• Second quarter: Reducto responded with a 10-2 run, taking a 41-39 advantage into halftime after knocking down back-to-back three-pointers.
• Third quarter: Capitol regained control with a 25-point period, leading 64-61 going into the final frame.
• Final minute: Capitol led 83-82 with under 10 seconds remaining, but Reducto drew a foul on a drive to the basket and hit both free throws to go ahead 84-83.
• Last possession: Capitol had a contested look from mid-range at the buzzer, but the shot rimmed out, sealing Reducto’s one-point win.

Tactical Story

Reducto’s game plan centered on forcing Sportivo Capitol into long, contested jump shots. After a shaky opening quarter, the visitors switched to a more active zone defense that slowed Capitol’s pick-and-roll attack. Reducto also dominated the offensive glass in the second half, generating second-chance points that kept the game within reach.

Sportivo Capitol, meanwhile, leaned heavily on its backcourt creation. The home side moved the ball well for three quarters and repeatedly found cutters behind Reducto’s defense, but late turnovers and missed free throws proved costly. Capitol finished the game 18-of-25 from the line, while Reducto went 20-of-26, a small margin that loomed large in a one-point result.

Standout Players

Reducto: Mateo Silva led the winners with 24 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists, including the decisive free throws in the final seconds. Bruno Techera added 16 points and 11 rebounds, while Facundo Lemos chipped in 14 points and hit two crucial three-pointers in the third quarter.

Sportivo Capitol: Diego Fernández paced Capitol with 23 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists. Nicolás Acosta scored 18 points, and Martín Cabrera recorded 12 points and 9 rebounds. Despite the loss, Capitol’s balanced scoring kept them in front for long stretches.

What It Means in the Tercera de Ascenso Table

The result gives Reducto an important road win in the Uruguay Tercera de Ascenso and strengthens its case in the upper half of the standings. For Sportivo Capitol, the defeat is a missed chance to gain ground in a competitive promotion race where every possession late in the season matters.

Reducto’s ability to win a low-margin game away from home could prove valuable as the campaign progresses. Sportivo Capitol will need to bounce back quickly, especially with its next fixtures likely to shape whether it remains in the promotion conversation.
