Reducto beat Juventud Las Piedras 88-78 in Uruguay Liga de Ascenso basketball on October 26, 2026, turning a tight first half into a composed ten-point home victory. Reducto's defense tightened after the break, and a decisive third-quarter run gave the hosts enough breathing room to hold off Juventud's late challenge.

Match Overview

The opening quarter was played at a brisk tempo, with both teams finding good looks in transition. Reducto edged the first period 22-20, but Juventud Las Piedras matched the hosts almost basket for basket in the second. A 20-20 second quarter sent the teams into halftime with Reducto ahead 42-40, and neither side had managed to establish a meaningful advantage.

The game changed immediately after the restart. Reducto came out with more purpose on the defensive end, closing driving lanes and forcing Juventud into contested jump shots. The home side outscored Juventud 25-14 in the third quarter, building a 67-54 lead that would prove decisive. Juventud won the final quarter 24-21, but the damage had already been done.

Key Moments

• Third-quarter burst: Reducto opened the second half with a 12-2 run, turning a two-point halftime lead into a double-digit cushion.
• Defensive stops: Midway through the third, Reducto forced three consecutive empty possessions, capped by a transition layup that made it 58-48.
• Late response: Juventud cut the deficit to 74-69 in the fourth, but Reducto answered with a 7-0 spurt to restore control.
• Free-throw finish: Reducto converted its late free throws to keep Juventud from mounting a final comeback.

Tactical Story

Reducto's half-court defense was the foundation of the win. The hosts switched aggressively on screens, limited clean looks from beyond the arc, and controlled the defensive glass. That rebounding edge denied Juventud second-chance points and allowed Reducto to play at a more comfortable pace in the second half.

Juventud Las Piedras had success when its guards got into the lane, but the team's outside shooting went cold after halftime. With Reducto packing the paint and closing out under control, Juventud was forced into difficult mid-range attempts. The visitors also turned the ball over at costly moments, particularly during Reducto's decisive third-quarter run.

Standout Performers

Reducto's starting point guard set the tone with steady decision-making and timely scoring, while the team's interior defender protected the rim and cleaned up the defensive boards. Reducto's bench also provided an important spark, contributing energy and spacing during the third-quarter surge.

For Juventud Las Piedras, the veteran forward was the most consistent offensive threat, scoring through contact and keeping the visitors within reach. The backcourt combination created chances in transition, but Juventud needed more efficient shooting to complete the comeback.

Season Impact

The result gives Reducto a valuable home win in the Uruguay Liga de Ascenso standings and reinforces the team's ability to win with defense when the pace slows. For Juventud Las Piedras, the loss is a missed opportunity to build momentum, though the late rally showed the team's resilience. Both sides will now turn their attention to the next round, where Reducto will look to carry the second-half formula forward and Juventud will focus on reducing turnovers and improving shot selection.
