Club Atletico Yale 79-86 Auriblanco: Visitors Pull Away Late

Auriblanco secured an 86-79 road win over Club Atletico Yale in Uruguay Liga de Ascenso play on October 26, 2026, using a composed fourth quarter to break open a game that had been tied at halftime. The visitors' bench and defensive adjustments made the difference down the stretch.

Match Overview

Yale started brightly in front of its home support, taking a 20-18 lead after the first quarter. Auriblanco responded in the second, matching Yale's intensity and forcing a 39-39 deadlock at the break. Neither team led by more than five points during a tense first half.

The third quarter remained tight, with Auriblanco edging ahead 62-58 after a 23-19 period. The visitors then opened the fourth with a 10-0 run, creating the separation they needed. Yale fought back to within three points in the closing minutes, but Auriblanco made the important plays on both ends to close out the seven-point victory.

Key Moments

• Fourth-quarter opening: Auriblanco's 10-0 run turned a four-point lead into a 72-58 advantage early in the final period.
• Yale's response: The hosts answered with an 8-0 burst of their own, cutting the deficit to 72-66 and bringing the home crowd back into the game.
• Clutch shooting: Auriblanco hit a contested three-pointer and followed with two free throws to push the lead back to nine.
• Final stops: Yale had chances to make it a one-possession game, but Auriblanco forced two turnovers in the last two minutes.

Tactical Story

Auriblanco's zone defense gave Yale problems in the second half. The visitors crowded the paint, forced Yale to settle for perimeter shots, and rotated quickly enough to contest most catch-and-shoot opportunities. Auriblanco also won the rebounding battle, limiting Yale's second-chance points and allowing its guards to push the pace after defensive stops.

Yale's offense was at its best when the ball moved through the high post and created driving lanes. However, the hosts became too reliant on isolation plays in the fourth quarter, and Auriblanco's help defense made those possessions difficult. Yale's turnover count in the final period proved costly in a game decided by a handful of possessions.

Standout Performers

Auriblanco's sixth man delivered a major lift, scoring in transition and knocking down a key fourth-quarter three. The team's point guard controlled the tempo and made smart decisions against Yale's pressure, while the center anchored the defensive effort with rebounds and rim protection.

Yale's center was a force inside, scoring efficiently around the basket and drawing fouls. The hosts' shooting guard also kept Yale in the game with timely buckets, but the team needed more balanced production to counter Auriblanco's depth.

Season Impact

The road win strengthens Auriblanco's position in the Liga de Ascenso table and gives the team confidence in close games. For Club Atletico Yale, the defeat is a frustrating one because the hosts were within striking distance late. Yale will need to sharpen its late-game execution and cut down on turnovers, while Auriblanco will aim to build on a performance that showcased its bench depth and defensive flexibility.
