Competing in the Circuito de Baloncesto de la Costa del Pacífico (CIBACOPA), the Soles are one of the most successful and storied franchises in the league, with a rich history of championships and a passionate fanbase.

Team Overview and Identity

Founded in 2004, Soles de Los Mochis has become a cornerstone of basketball in Sinaloa. The team's name, meaning "Suns," reflects the warm climate and vibrant culture of the region. They play their home games at the Gimnasio Centenario, a 4,000-seat arena known for its lively atmosphere. The team colors are yellow and blue, and their logo features a stylized sun with a basketball. The Soles are celebrated for their community involvement and their role in developing Mexican basketball talent.

History and Achievements

Soles Los Mochis have been a dominant force in CIBACOPA since their inception. The franchise won its first championship in 2005, just one year after joining the league. They followed with back-to-back titles in 2006 and 2007, establishing a dynasty. A fourth championship came in 2010, and a fifth in 2015. The Soles have also finished as runners-up three times (2008, 2012, 2018). Their five titles are among the most in CIBACOPA history, and they have consistently been a playoff team, missing the postseason only twice in their existence.

Playing Style and Philosophy

Under head coach Francisco "Paco" Ramírez, who has been with the team since 2017, the Soles employ a balanced attack that combines inside scoring with perimeter shooting. They are known for their disciplined defense and rebounding, often controlling the glass to limit opponents' second-chance opportunities. The team's half-court offense relies on ball movement and player cuts, creating high-percentage shots. This fundamentally sound approach has made them a perennial contender.

Key Players and Roster

The Soles boast a talented roster led by veteran point guard Omar Quintero, a former Mexican national team player known for his leadership and clutch play. Forward Héctor Hernández is a versatile scorer and rebounder, while center José "El Toro" García provides a dominant inside presence. American import guard D.J. Cooper has been a key contributor since joining in 2021, leading the team in assists and steals. The bench features promising young players like shooting guard Diego Herrera, who represents the future of the franchise.

Rivalries and Community Impact

Soles Los Mochis share intense rivalries with the Frayles de Guasave and the Caballeros de Culiacán, both nearby Sinaloa teams. These matchups are highly anticipated and often decide the fate of the regular season. The Soles are deeply embedded in the Los Mochis community, hosting youth clinics, school visits, and charity events. The team's success has made basketball a central part of local identity, and the Gimnasio Centenario is always packed for home games.

Recent Season and Future Outlook

In the 2023 CIBACOPA season, the Soles finished second in the regular season with a 28-10 record. They advanced to the finals, where they lost to the Rayos de Hermosillo in a hard-fought seven-game series. Despite the disappointment, the team's future remains bright. With a strong core returning and a commitment to developing young talent, Soles Los Mochis are determined to add a sixth championship to their trophy case in 2024.
