tigerscores365 The LIU Brooklyn Women's basketball team, now known as the LIU Sharks following the university's athletic merger, competes in NCAA Division I. Based in Brooklyn, New York, they play their home games at the Steinberg Wellness Center, bringing exciting college basketball to the borough. The program has a long history representing Long Island University, with the Blackbirds identity being a cherished part of its past. A core fact of the program is its dedication to student-athletes competing in the Northeast Conference (NEC). The team was formed as part of the university's athletic offerings, providing young women the chance to compete at a high level while pursuing their education. While they may not have a deep history of NCAA tournament runs, the program has had its moments of glory, including NEC conference championships that have led to appearances in the national tournament, creating unforgettable moments for the university community. In the modern era, the Sharks continue to battle in the NEC, building teams characterized by hustle and defensive intensity. The fan base includes passionate students, alumni, and local supporters who fill the gym with energy. LIU Women's basketball remains a proud and competitive program in the NYC collegiate landscape.
