Petkim Spor produced one of the more eye-catching results of the Basketbol Super Ligi round, beating Fenerbahçe Tarfin 82-77 on the road on Sunday night. The visitors trailed for long spells but produced a blistering final stretch, overturning a narrow deficit with clutch shooting and disciplined defence to hand the hosts a home defeat.

Match overview

On paper this looked like a straightforward assignment for Fenerbahçe Tarfin, who went in with the deeper rotation and the louder home support behind them. Early on, that script appeared to hold: the hosts moved the ball crisply, attacked the paint off the pick-and-roll and built a working lead through the opening quarter.

Petkim Spor, though, refused to be shaken loose. Their response was built on three-point shooting and an aggressive defensive approach that disrupted Fenerbahçe's rhythm in the half court. By halftime the game had become a genuine contest, and the second half turned into a possession-by-possession battle that was only settled in the last two minutes.

Key moments

• First-half resistance: Petkim stayed in contact through the opening two quarters, answering every Fenerbahçe run with a timely three-pointer of their own.
• Third-quarter swing: The visitors tightened their defence and forced a string of turnovers, converting them into quick points to edge ahead.
• Fenerbahçe's counter: The hosts regained the initiative midway through the final period with a run powered by their frontcourt and a pair of tough finishes in traffic.
• The closing run: Petkim responded with the decisive burst of the night, hitting back-to-back perimeter shots and sealing the win at the free-throw line.

Tactical story

The game was decided by shot quality and turnovers. Petkim Spor's coaching staff made a clear bet: crowd the paint, force Fenerbahçe to beat them from the outside, and live with the consequences. For much of the night, the hosts obliged by settling for contested jumpers instead of working the ball into the post or attacking closeouts.

At the other end, Petkim's ball movement was noticeably sharper. They generated open looks with extra passes and punished Fenerbahçe's help defence with kick-outs to the corners. Their rebounding effort on the offensive glass also extended possessions at critical moments, denying the hosts the clean defensive rebounds they needed to run in transition.

Standout performers

Petkim's perimeter players carried the scoring load, with their guards combining to hit the biggest shots of the fourth quarter and controlling tempo when the pressure mounted. The frontcourt contributed crucial second-chance points and held their ground defensively against a physically imposing Fenerbahçe interior.

For Fenerbahçe Tarfin, the individual performances were there in flashes — strong play in the paint, some excellent transition finishing and a handful of momentum-swinging defensive plays — but the collective execution faltered in the final five minutes, when the hosts went cold from the field and turned the ball over in key possessions.

Season impact

The result is a significant one in the Basketbol Super Ligi table. Petkim Spor pick up a road win against one of the league's marquee names, a result that boosts both their record and their confidence heading into a demanding stretch of fixtures. Fenerbahçe Tarfin, meanwhile, will view this as a missed opportunity on home hardwood and will be eager to correct their late-game execution quickly.

What the night confirmed is that the gap between the established powers and the league's ambitious mid-tier clubs continues to narrow — and that in this competition, a well-drilled game plan can neutralise a more talented roster.
