Key moments
The tone was set immediately. Vacallo opened with a 15-2 run, forcing Union Lavaux Riviera into an early timeout and setting the home crowd alight. The hosts were relentless on the offensive glass and converted several second-chance opportunities into quick points. A 12-0 run in the second quarter pushed the lead past 20, and the game never became competitive again.
Any slim hope of a second-half response was erased when Vacallo started the third quarter with a 10-0 surge. The defensive pressure was suffocating, and Union Lavaux Riviera struggled to get clean looks from the perimeter. By the time the fourth quarter began, Vacallo’s bench players were able to see out the game with the result secure.
Tactical story
Vacallo’s dominance was built on paint control. The hosts attacked the rim consistently, drawing fouls and finishing through contact, while also moving the ball quickly to create open corner threes. Defensively, they held Union Lavaux Riviera to a low shooting percentage and forced 18 turnovers, many of which turned into transition points. Vacallo’s rebounding advantage limited second-chance opportunities for the visitors and allowed the hosts to dictate tempo.
Union Lavaux Riviera had some success in isolation but lacked the ball movement needed to break down Vacallo’s compact defense. The visitors were also hurt by foul trouble in the first half, which forced them into deeper rotations and made it harder to match Vacallo’s physicality. Vacallo’s bench contributed 29 points, underlining the depth and balance of the performance.
Standout performers
- Matteo Rossi (Vacallo): 24 points and 9 rebounds, dominating the interior.
- Luca Bianchi (Vacallo): 18 points and 6 assists, controlling the pace.
- Andrea Ferrari (Vacallo): 15 points and 7 rebounds.
- Davide Colombo (Vacallo): 12 points off the bench.
- Julien Morel (Union Lavaux Riviera): 15 points in a losing effort.
- Thomas Perret (Union Lavaux Riviera): 12 points and 5 rebounds.
Season impact
The win is a major confidence boost for Vacallo and a warning to the rest of the Switzerland NLB. A 38-point margin improves their point differential and reinforces their home-court strength. For Union Lavaux Riviera, the defeat highlights areas to address on defense and rebounding, but the season is long enough for a quick response. Vacallo will look to build on the intensity of this performance, while Union Lavaux Riviera must regroup before their next fixture.
