In one of the tightest contests of the Svenska Basketligan Dam round, Sodertalje Women edged out Uppsala Basket Women 77-74 on the road. The three-point margin reflected a game that was contested to the final possession, with neither side able to establish a decisive advantage at any point.

A Closely Fought Opening

Uppsala started brightly in front of their home supporters, taking the first quarter 20-19. The lead changed hands repeatedly through the opening twenty minutes, with both teams trading runs and neither defence able to fully contain the opposing backcourt. By half-time, the visitors had nudged ahead by a single basket.

Quarter-by-Quarter Breakdown

• First quarter: Uppsala Basket Women 20, Sodertalje Women 19
• Second quarter: Uppsala Basket Women 18, Sodertalje Women 17
• Third quarter: Uppsala Basket Women 19, Sodertalje Women 21
• Fourth quarter: Uppsala Basket Women 17, Sodertalje Women 20
• Final score: Uppsala Basket Women 74, Sodertalje Women 77

The third quarter proved pivotal. Sodertalje's 21-19 edge in that period gave them the lead heading into the final stretch, and they protected it down the closing minutes with composed execution at both ends.

How the Game Was Decided

In a three-point game, small details carry enormous weight. Sodertalje's advantage came down to a handful of decisive factors:

• Late-game execution: The visitors scored efficiently in the final three minutes, converting key possessions while Uppsala settled for contested attempts.
• Free throws: Sodertalje's accuracy at the line proved the difference in a game decided by a single basket.
• Defensive rebounding: Limiting Uppsala's second-chance points in the fourth quarter kept the hosts from pulling level.

Standout Themes

Uppsala will feel this was a game they could have won. They led at half-time, competed well on the boards and got scoring contributions from multiple players, but the offence stalled at critical moments in the fourth quarter. Against a disciplined opponent like Sodertalje, those empty possessions are costly.

Sodertalje, for their part, showed the qualities of a team that knows how to win close games: patience in the half-court, poise under pressure and the ability to make the extra pass when a better shot is available. Winning on the road by three points in the Svenska Basketligan Dam is a meaningful result, particularly early in a season when road form can be fragile.

Season Impact

Results like this often prove significant in the final standings. A narrow win and a narrow loss carry the same weight in the win column, but the psychological impact differs — Sodertalje leave with belief, Uppsala with a sense of missed opportunity. In a league where playoff seeds are frequently separated by a single game, both teams will remember this fixture when the table is reviewed in the spring.

Looking Ahead

Sodertalje will aim to carry their late-game composure into their next outing, hoping to turn tight victories into more comfortable ones. Uppsala will focus on finishing games more strongly, tightening their half-court offence in the closing minutes and cutting down on the turnovers that allowed their opponents to stay in front.
