Södertälje Women produced one of their most complete performances of the Svenska Basketligan Dam campaign, overwhelming AIK Basket Women 80-56 in front of their home crowd. A 24-point margin of victory tells only part of the story: the hosts led from the middle of the first quarter, never allowed their opponents to settle into a rhythm, and closed the game with their bench on the floor.

For a Södertälje side chasing a high playoff seeding, this was exactly the kind of statement result that builds momentum in the Swedish women's top flight, while AIK Basket Women leave with clear problems to solve at both ends of the floor.

Match overview

Södertälje set the tone defensively in the opening period, forcing AIK into contested jump shots late in the shot clock. The hosts pushed the tempo off every defensive rebound and were rewarded with easy transition baskets, building a lead they never surrendered. By halftime the advantage had grown to double digits, and a dominant third quarter effectively ended the contest.

How the game was won

The decisive factor was Södertälje's control of the defensive glass. Time and again AIK's first shot was contested, and the rebound was secured and quickly turned into a fast break. That pattern created a steady stream of high-percentage attempts and left the visitors chasing the game in the half court.

• Rebounding: Södertälje dominated the boards, limiting second-chance points and igniting transition offence.
• Perimeter defence: AIK were held to a low shooting percentage from beyond the arc, with most of their looks coming off the dribble rather than from ball movement.
• Bench production: The Södertälje reserves extended the lead in the fourth quarter, underlining the depth of the roster.
• Ball security: Fewer turnovers in the second half allowed the hosts to protect their advantage without ever losing composure.

Standout performers

Södertälje's scoring was spread across the rotation rather than concentrated in one player, a hallmark of well-coached teams at this level. The starting backcourt dictated tempo, the forwards did the dirty work on the glass, and the second unit kept the intensity high. For AIK, the brightest moments came from individual drives to the rim, but there was little support around them.

Tactical story and season impact

Södertälje's coaching staff made a simple but effective adjustment after the first few minutes, switching to a more aggressive help defence that closed the driving lanes and dared AIK to beat them from outside. That gamble paid off handsomely. Offensively, the hosts played inside-out, drawing defenders into the paint before kicking the ball to open shooters.

The result strengthens Södertälje's position in the Svenska Basketligan Dam standings and adds another convincing entry to their head-to-head record against AIK. For AIK Basket Women, the focus now shifts to limiting turnovers and finding more consistent secondary scoring before their next fixture. On this evidence, Södertälje are a team capable of competing for silverware this season, while AIK remain a work in progress.
