Alvik BBK Women produced a statement performance in the Svenska Basketligan Dam, defeating city rivals AIK Basket Women 87-76 in a Stockholm derby that lived up to its billing. The hosts' balanced attack and superior rebounding proved decisive, as Alvik pulled clear in the second half to record a confidence-boosting home victory.

Match overview

Derbies in the Swedish women's top division rarely follow a script, and this one was no exception for two quarters. AIK came out aggressive, pushing the pace and knocking down shots from the perimeter to keep the game tight. Alvik, however, were happy to trade baskets early, trusting that their size and depth would tell over forty minutes. That patience was rewarded after the interval.

How the game turned

The third quarter was where Alvik took control. A sustained run built on defensive stops, quick outlet passes and efficient finishing in transition opened up a double-digit cushion. AIK fought back with a flurry of three-pointers in the fourth, but Alvik answered every surge with a composed possession — either a post touch or a drive that drew contact and sent them to the free-throw line.

• Rebounding edge: Alvik controlled the boards on both ends, limiting AIK's second-chance opportunities.
• Transition scoring: The hosts converted defensive rebounds into quick points, particularly in the third quarter.
• Free-throw volume: Alvik got to the line far more often, a direct result of their aggressive interior play.

Standout performers

Alvik's frontcourt set the tone, dominating the paint and forcing AIK into difficult, contested shots. Their guards complemented that inside presence with steady decision-making and timely shooting. For AIK, there were positives — the perimeter shooting kept them within reach and their energy never dropped — but too many empty possessions in the third quarter proved costly.

What it means

Bragging rights in Stockholm matter, but the league table matters more. Alvik's win strengthens their position in the upper half of the Basketligan Dam standings and gives them a valuable head-to-head advantage should tiebreakers come into play later in the season. For AIK, the defeat is a reminder that they need more consistent defensive rebounding if they are to convert competitive performances into wins.
