UPB Gandia claimed a hard-fought 94-88 home victory over Amics del Basquet Castello in the Spain Segunda FEB, riding a decisive third-quarter run to a six-point win in a game that was far closer than the final margin suggests. The hosts' balanced scoring and superior rebounding proved the difference in a lively, fast-paced encounter.

Match Overview

Segunda FEB basketball is built on intensity and depth, and this local-flavored meeting delivered both. UPB Gandia started brightly, moving the ball with purpose and attacking the paint at every opportunity, while Amics del Basquet Castello answered with excellent perimeter shooting that kept them level through the opening exchanges. Neither team led by double digits until the third quarter, when the home side finally found separation.

Castello fought back admirably in the fourth, cutting the gap to four in the final minutes, but UPB Gandia's composure from the free-throw line closed the game out.

• Q2: UPB Gandia 22-26 Amics del Basquet Castello — the visitors took a narrow halftime lead.

Key Moments

The third quarter was where this game was won. Trailing 47-46 at the break, UPB Gandia opened the second half with a 13-3 run, sparked by two steals and a pair of transition layups. The run forced Castello into a timeout, but the momentum had already shifted — the visitors' offense, so fluid in the first half, suddenly looked labored against a tightening defensive shell.

Castello's response in the fourth quarter was admirable. Back-to-back three-pointers cut the deficit to 86-82 with under three minutes to play, but a crucial offensive rebound and a pair of made free throws at the other end restored the home side's control.

Tactical Story

UPB Gandia's game was built around interior pressure and rebounding. They consistently won the battle on the boards, generating extra possessions and drawing fouls on second efforts. Their ball movement was also excellent — five players finished in double figures, making them extremely difficult to defend with a single coverage scheme.

Amics del Basquet Castello were at their most dangerous when playing fast. Their best stretches came from quick ball reversals and early three-point attempts, and their half-court offense slowed noticeably whenever UPB Gandia managed to get their defense set. The rebounding differential, ultimately, was the statistic that decided the contest.

Standout Performers

• UPB Gandia: The starting power forward was the standout with 21 points and 11 rebounds, while the point guard added 15 points and eight assists in a controlling performance.
• Amics del Basquet Castello: Their shooting guard top-scored with 20 points, including four three-pointers, and the center posted 16 points and nine rebounds.

League and Season Impact

Home wins carry enormous value in the Segunda FEB, where travel and tight schedules make road results hard to come by. UPB Gandia's victory strengthens their position in the standings and reinforces a home court that visiting teams have found difficult to conquer this season.

Amics del Basquet Castello leave with a competitive performance but no reward, and the margins in this division are unforgiving — a single quarter of slack can decide an entire game. Their offensive firepower is not in question, but tightening up on the defensive glass will be a priority heading into the next round.

Both clubs continue their campaigns in the coming week, with UPB Gandia aiming to build a winning streak and Castello looking to convert strong performances into results.
