How Melilla Dictated the Game

Melilla’s advantage began in the paint. The hosts controlled the defensive glass, limited Ponfelada’s second-chance points, and consistently finished around the rim. Their big men did a good job of establishing deep position, while the guards repeatedly found ways to deliver entry passes over the top of Ponfelada’s defense.

On the perimeter, Melilla was patient rather than reckless. The team moved the ball side to side, forced rotations, and knocked down open threes when Ponfelada collapsed into the paint. That inside-out balance made the offense difficult to guard for long stretches.

Key Moments

Ponfelada’s best stretch came early in the third quarter, when a quick 7-2 run cut the Melilla lead to 43-41. The visitors appeared to have momentum, but Melilla responded with a decisive 10-2 run of their own. The surge included a three-pointer from the wing, a fast-break dunk, and a pair of free throws after an offensive rebound.

That sequence pushed the lead back to double digits and forced Ponfelada to play from behind for the rest of the night. Melilla never allowed the margin to dip below eight points in the fourth quarter, closing the game with solid free-throw shooting and disciplined half-court defense.

Standout Performers

Melilla Baloncesto were led by guard Sergio López, who finished with 19 points, 5 assists, and 3 steals. Forward David Kante added 17 points and 9 rebounds, while center Miguel Ortega contributed 13 points and 8 rebounds. Reserve guard Javier Romero provided a spark with 11 points off the bench, including three three-pointers.

For Ponfelada, Javier Moreno led the scoring with 16 points, and Diego Santos added 13 points and 6 rebounds. However, the visitors struggled to generate consistent offense in the half court and were held to a lower shooting percentage than Melilla in each of the final three quarters.
